I bumped into him in the artistes/backstage bar at the Hammersmith Odeon,(when it WAS the Hammersmith Odeon). He has two brassy blonde,"sorts",with him..both of them well past the age that the school uniforms they were wearing was appropriate,(especially for a wet Thursday afternoon). That was the thing though...he actually lived that life,it wasn't just an act, there was no one else in the bar but the staff, (and myself-just passing through),he wasn't trying to impress anyone. We didn't speak, just exchanged grins and nods, but that bloke in that moment epitomised everything I love about rock and roll. A few years later I was told about a possible backline tech gig for Motorhead. I knocked it back though-fuck listening to that racket night after night :Headphone:
one of my little party tricks back in the day when 9 of us used to share a two bed roomed flat in aberdoom. was to place the tannoy cabinets ether side of the poor sod that had collapsed next to the stereo the night before. ace of spades turned to eleven. press play then retreat to hall to observe. superb. rip.
I saw Motorhead play The White Rock Theatre in Hastings, probably mid-90s. We walked in and couldn't believe the speaker stacks, looked like they'd bought their Wembley Stadium set up to a medium sized theatre with great acoustics. Was a full on gig and we all left impressed....and our ears stopped ringing 3-4 days later. We still talk about it to this day. RIP Lemmy and thanks!
One thing that always bugs me at gigs is people talking when the music is playing (I find it disrespectful to the people playing and to the people trying to listen - seriously if you want to talk over the music then f*ck off home and put the record on!) but I have to say in all the times I have seen Motorhead that has never been a problem. Not because people weren't talking, but because it was so damn LOUD that no-one could hear them anyway... A mate of mine has a theory; "if you can still see, it's not loud enough". Even he had to admit that Motorhead were just about loud enough... \m/
I wonder if he would have got anywhere if it wasn't for Silver Machine and........ .........would Hawkwind have got anywhere if it wasn't for Lemmy?
Certainly not one of those for whom people will say 'Died too young and never lived'. Lived life to the full and will be at Heavens Gate raising hell..... Great quote I saw yesterday by his manager. Lemmy was reknowned for drink JD. He said in recent times he moved over to vodka and orange as he thought it was healthier..... :guitar:
did anyone on here watch the send of for lemmy last night glad I did it was great to hear the memories of him from people Christ I was crying with laughter at times but a great send off
Had to take a second look at the news headlines yesterday, couldnt believe that Bowie has gone, it came as a shock...he was breath of fresh air and a massive musical influence on me when I was a school kid in the 70's....RIP.
