Top rank Swansea late 70s. Dictators supporting in think?? JJB off stage and fighting with bloke in audience. Magic. RIP
It was meant to be their farewell goodbye tour this year, so really too bad that Dave didn't make the final shows. I will definitely catch them once CV19 is done for oldtimes sake.
The Stranglers - Get A Grip On Yourself (1977) Remember 1977 well - it was the height of punk rock.... s'pose that it was awhile ago
Sad news, one of my favourite bands as a youf. The use of the organ gave them a very distinctive and original sound, unusual for the punk scene. Sad loss.
Love The Stranglers, not the same without Hugh on vocals though. Sad news, RIP Dave. There was a chap who lived by us when we were kids, he got given most of The Stranglers singles by someone or other. He was mad on Adam and the Ants for some unknown reason as was one of my sisters. I swapped all her Adam Ant collection for the box of original singles with this crackpot. When she found out she and my other sisters beat me up but he wouldn’t swap them back and I’ve still got them.... ha ha.
Saw them in Coventry,in what is now the Central Library.76,77ish.Funnily enough,JJB jumps off the stage, clouts some bloke, then returns to the stage.Happy days.
The Swansea gig is apparently quite infamous. 1977. It was The Dictators supporting. Lots of accounts of fights etc Here’s a write up of the battle zone https://www.furious.com/perfect/stranglers.html
The guy was a keyboard genius. The only thing to rival his keyboard virtuosity on songs like Princess of the Street was perhaps Alan Price with House of the Rising Sun. imho. Saw ‘em live twice
Sad loss, bass line on Nice and Sleazy is pretty memorable, as is the (nsfw) video of it from Battersea Park in 1978. Presume they don’t have too many concerts like that anymore these days.... Mr bimble
This footage? FFWD to 2.33 to the naughty parts, as there's no sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=RDCMUCfM-3hDSJkd2M_YGSn8oVkw&v=LHsFZLkqLno&feature=emb_rel_end
Not that one, and doubt it would be on YouTube for long..... Dont think I can post the link, Forum rules and all that. Search 'Nice and Sleazy Battersea Park 1978' and peruse the DailyMotion video should it appear. There is sound, Dave Greenfield gets a bit carried away, and JJB in fine form... Mr Bimble
