1200 Running Temp Question 1200 S 2014

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Rich C, May 24, 2016.

  1. Update following a few months of running with the Aprilia 834232 thermostat....
With the warmer weather arriving, temperature control is working great, bike quickly gets to 80oC and hovers around this (+/-2oC) until sat in traffic where it rises as previously until the fan kicks in.
Average mpg consistently up from 45 to 50 with "spirited" mixed riding giving an approx +20miles before low fuel light comes on.
    Great result

  2. I'm yet to do this, although I'm keen to try blanking off part of the radiator with a piece of laminated card. For reference I get around 48mpg if I'm pressing on a bit, and up to around 50mpg if I'm pootling about. I'd be more interested in seeing if the fueling is improved though, as I suspect it's running quite rich most of the time.

  3. My concern with blanking part of the radiator is when you really need the cooling, say in traffic and you risk overheating

  4. Is it just the back coolant pipe that needs replacing. Are the other 2 holes the same size as standard

what size is the id going to the rear cylinder

was the old one a 22-19

just to clarify would I need a 19mm inner diameter pipe both ends

  5. Yes, just the rear pipe to replace, 19mm ID.
See my previous post for more details and pics

  6. Thanks I measure my rear cylinder and it’s 22mm id so do I need a 19 to 22 pipe

  7. Ideally, but the 19mm fits with some encouragement. Doubt you will find a 19 to 22 of the right length?

  8. Thanks. I have seen a few second hand ones on eBay with a sort of pipe over a pipe but if the 19mm will fit that’s perfect
