No, I think if I had the results would be far better. Used FS365. Never again. I'm blaming this although tbh I think its combination of shite finish and FS not being great ACF gets big thumbs up from me from previous use. Believed dealer hype on FS. Never again. Will be getting some this week
Moisture and traces of salt is the killer combination. The problem with FS365 is its water soluble so washes off too easily, ACF50 isn't so stays on better. Problem is if moisture is present then ACF50 has to be applied 100% because anything not coated will corrode. This is difficult to do which is why people who store bikes longterm use vac bags. Hopefully not all is lost. Another product which is brilliant is Corrosion Block Grease ACF50 use it on all my threads, spindles etc.
Must be really aggressive salt. Not only get thru all the protection i did use, but ate things away in weeks which took years on other bikes. Well thats what Ducati will say
I had my 2010 mts valeted last year, after previously just giving it a once over with hose, bucket and sponge. It was noticeable that whatever he sprayed on the bike affected the plating on the fasteners. One of the other guys who had his GS done at the same time noticed exactly the same on his bike. I thought long and hard about having it do e again this year, but decided to go for it. We mentioned this to him a month or so back when he redid them, and he said he now dilutes the cleaning products, as we were not the only ones to comment. The main reason for the valet was because he then treated the bike with acf50. so my view is, clean the bike properly and dont use aggressive cleaning products, and things should be ok. Or certainly no worse than other makes anyway. btw no salt on the roads around us either. Just feckin huge puddles, trees, potholes, mud slides, etc. every day is like a Dakar special stage
I really don't know why people are having such issues with corrosion? Are you really taking proper precautions? I've done just over 2k miles since owning it when it had 6k on the clock... I have ridden all winter (owned it for 2 months) through rain, frost... The works. Yet with one, ONE application of ACF 50... Nothing has rusted, the chain had surface rust once but that was because I did a cack job at putting wax on it properly as I was rushing. Everything else is perfectly fine, ask me to take a picture of any point on the bike and I bet you it will be rust free... And no, I've not cleaned it since the application.
I'm I heysham on th coast in north west but still don't think it should be that bad at 6 months old and 900 miles and after being treated with acf50. Very disappointed
That is bad, how old is the bike? Never seen one as rough as that, looks like you've just pulled it out of the sea!
never ever ride with salt on roads. never. ever. unless you have too. Then you must hose it down immediately. Even then it'll still be bad. I learnt my lesson on my Katana and thus used a shitter to commute on afterwards ever since. Never ride a ducati in salt. Anything with any hint of magnesium will dissolve before your own eyeballs. I will not ride until March. But then I walk to work.
Jesus christ mate! Have you bothered with ANY wax/lube at all this year? I've never seen anything that bad. As for the nuts and stuff, ACF 50 would have stopped that. Give em a good wire brush clean and coat in ACF 50.
It is poor for 900 miles, but it looks encrusted in a a rusty, salty mess! Not sure if the dealer would do much, I'd get the nuts cleaned up, perhaps even replated.
Guys as said earlier in thread the bike was treated to acf50 in first week and less than 100 miles. I've lubed the chain several times and was / should have been done during the 600 mile service which was in October I think. I really shouldn't have to re plate nuts on a bik this new and expensive. My old zx6r which doesn't get washed and hasn't had chain lubed at all is pretty much fine
Very odd then, have you washed it since? What stuff do you use when you wash? Without being brutal mate, but I can't see it being an issue with the bike, I'm running the standard chain on my 2011 which is now over 8k in miles and it's still pretty spanking new. I noticed your sprocket is pretty much spotless, which is incredible considering the current weather. Are you washing the chain within your normal wash? If so, what are you using? Stuff like SDOC 100 is VERY aggressive. Which is a spray on, leave 20 mins, spray off jobby... Might be that?
I agree with you, and I wouldn't be happy with it either, but I can just imagine what the dealer is gonna say....
Yea, sadly the dealer will not accept any responsibility for this, it's a problem caused by weather and user maintenance.
