It'd be a dull world if everyone shared my impeccable tastes! lol GPS........sorted a few bikes myself......and a ton of info here (although not updated for later bikes): Ducati Multistrada 1200 - MTS1200.info redirect ....use the search field part way down the page, type in Ducati GPS (won't get the Beemer references then;-) Bradders - miss the GS a lot, no comparison with the Mutley but plenty of occasions I'd take it out this time of year whilst the Mutley stays wrapped up in the garage. (lots of mods.....Power Commander set up on Dyno, full Remus, Ohlins suspenders both ends, bars, decent road tyres....)
Personally I only use WD40 for what it was designed as, a penetrating oil. It breaks down oil and grease so has no business being near a chain and sprockets. I use a scott oiler on my F800 GS and ride it 52 weeks of the year in all conditions, read the biggest forum UKGSER and you will find similar posts to this. When I get my Ducati (next weekend) I will be checking the chain after every weekend its used and if its wet, will dry and wax it before its put away. Chains and sprockets are wear items so unless a shiny set lasts longer is there much point in spending a lot of money on it, I don't think so. Just my opinion.
Ok so here is mine today. Hopefully you van see the rollers are well lubed, as I have maintained it regardless of comments ;-) with regular squirts after every other ride at very least. Also had a full bottle of FS thrown at it, and the chain has had several really strong cleans with brush and varying products, incl a anti rust one. Its worth noting it has had one adjustment, which was a fair amount, and no signs of any tight spots
Sorry to say, but looks like its been parked in a bucket of sea water. Would not be impressed if my chain and sprocket looked like that!
It's almost like you live near the sea  However the new oem chain MR put on mine and I've done 40 miles since has signs of rust - the oem one when I bought her didn't - so deffo substandard batch or new manufacturer
I use scottoil only in the summer but in winter top up with some sae 80/90 gear oil brushed on to the side plates every couple of hundred miles, especially if expecting very wet or salted roads. So far no rust on the oem chain in three winters.
I think its a recent thing as it seems OEM Ducati chains installed in the last 6 months have the winter blues..or so it seems. And noticeable those with lovely shiny units have none OEM bits fitted
why would anyone fit an oem chain when you can get did afam tsubaki etc etc in a variety of qualities and colours so easily…….
When mine develops tight spot it will be changed for something gold. But bit pissed as I figured. i'd not need to bother before it goes at around 3yrs old. Theres £150 I hadn't budgeted for
