S4r Rebuild

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by M nine, Nov 18, 2024.

  1. After a few outings I realised I hadn't seen the cooling fans run, not anything unusual as it isn't hot at the moment but it was a reminder to run it right up to confirm, I let it get to 105 on the dash before shutting it down, no fans running.
A quick look through the manual told me there are two sensors, one in the horizontal head that feeds info to the dash and one in the vert head that goes to the ecu, the ecu switches the fans.
The horizontal sensor tested ok, showing 4500ish ohms at 15 degrees, the vert sensor was open circuit.

A quick email to the dealer and I was advised there were no sensors (part# 55240131A) available in the country or out of the factory!
I thought something must cross over as designs of these things are always similar.
Anyway I ended up finding a Bosch part 0280130026, which is almost identical other than being 5mm longer, the datasheet ohm to degrees info was similar to what I was seeing on the horiz sensor so good to go.

Testing after install was successful with the fans coming on just over 100 degrees and cooling things down again!
