Satin Metallic To Gloss Finish

Discussion in 'Detailing and cleaning' started by J biker, Apr 29, 2024.

  1. As per the heading. Not a big fan of matt metallic and wondering what the options are to achieve gloss finish. See top of tank and front mudguard IMG_1162.jpeg in the picture.

I gloss lacquered my GS Rallye, as the matt annoyed me with 2 pac clear gloss lacquer (expensive rattle can) and it was real ball ache to do, just got away with it after many hours of polishing afterwards. It defo looked better though and only I knew where the fuck ups were in the finish, as it took a very close inspection to see.

Options? I am not inclined to risk the rattle can option again!

Leave it, take it to a paint-shop, polish with some unknown product?

  2. Lots of KTM's on this Ducati forum :grinning:

No expert on the paint question but I would have thought the only option was to do as you did with your Rallye.... decent paint shop is the solution for the best finish.

Screen.... do you really need that?!
Obviously different for riders of differing heights but (at 5' 11".... and a half), the ktm flyscreen is surprisingly effective for its small size, I can cruise at 80 comfortable as ;-)

  4. Maybe, not much choice where I am though, out in the sticks.

  5. Not tried a smaller screen tbh, it looks ok outside though, hardly notice it being clear. 80/90 ok, just keeps a bit blast off. I will be (sports) touring on this. Hopefully next week as the weather is forecast to improve.
Off for a few days in the twisties..
