Yes you’re heading into Snowdonia at that point, with knackered road surfaces under shade from overhang trees and wet there too. Tight twist and turns. Not good for blasting but wonderful views and vistas take you breath away. Good to stop, look and appreciate it all , a few minutes away from our hectic lives worrying what will go wrong next on the bike.
Through the mountains from Llandudno back to Bristol yesterday up in the clouds couldnt see much around Traws then sun over Bwlch y Groes lovely run - but not much at M1200s speed
Back home after the weekend. Wales has some great biking roads, but beware, the speed limits are draconian and every road has a speed camera sign on a lamp post (and I mean every road), so you never know where they are. Just behave yourself. Double white lines abound and overtaking the ubiquitous VW campers of local farmers in tractors can take a while if you are staying legal. Despite the horror stories about North Wales Police, I only saw 1 Bike Cop with a speed gun at the entrance of a village where the speed limit dropped. Myself and my mate both got a wave as we were acting sensibly. Snowdonia and the Brecons were as expected, with some great roads, but out of the national parks, some of the best roads were in West wales, south of Aberystwyth. Recommended for anybody with a few days to spare. I planned for a few showers But I've had 4 days of scorchio weather without a cloud in the sky yesterday and today. It would have still been a good run in the rain, but the weather helped.
I started to laugh when I passed a signpost for Llanddewi Brefi. All I could hear was Tom Baker's voice in my head and Daffyd bemoaning about being the only gay in the village. I had my intercom on and my mate asked what I was laughing at. .............Yes, he said I was puerile too.
I think I may have seen you yesterday Robarano did you stop at the garage with the big Starbucks at Ross on Wye? Opposite the kfc!
I did have a run into Wales today; took a tank-bag with toothbrush and clean kegs to give me the option of an overnight stay , but the weather deteriorated, so I decided to loop back at Bala, and took the B4501 North. Thanks to Nice Man at Bus-stop in Denbigh who pointed me in the direction of St Asaphs to pick up the A55. Still, got 200+ miles in, and the 748 is purring nicely. I feel a lot more confident on a longer run now I have replaced the coolant header tank with an ally one; seeing as the last plastic one failed at less than a year old...
I did the Glencoe / NC500 / Cairngorms and Mull / Skye a couple of weeks back too... it was awesome!! I want to do it again..... and I did it on a GS too ( but thats a secret ) lol
