interesting is it not that after many decades of Dundee being the most depressing city in the uk it has transformed its self in line with a change of management and outlook?

  10. What makes a city "cool"? Is it the number of people living in who haven't learned to dress or shave properly and only drink coffee from paper cups at a fiver a go?

Personally, I think the best way to improve any city is to turn it back into fields but if I had to choose one it would be (since the thread has gone global for some reason) Darwin. Its small, hot and feels splendidly isolated because it is.

  11. Morning Finm :)

  12. Milan is nice I like Bruge too
    Favourite Paris love it there

  13. Anyhow, Scotland's coolest city has to be Glasgow. I love Glasgow. When it's not pissing down....

  15. Well of course it's doing well, it now has many U.K. companies there, hint@yourwaggingoldsmileyfinger

Lovely place though despite it's location :D Mornin fin

Scotland is one of two places on my list to retire too

  16. What’s your unexpected top ten city in the world?

^^^ this bit, was the clue lol.

Plus some of us could not think of a cool city in Scotland other than temperature related! I like Oban (much improved over recent years) but Im sure it doesnt qualify on size..

  17. Size doesn't matter :eyes:. It's a city if it's got a cathedral. The smallest city in the UK is St. David's in Pembrokshire. Its smaller than many villages. It's a lovely place but too touristy to get a vote from me.

Not sure I'm well enough travelled to compile a world top ten. I tend to avoid cities but to qualify as a favourite I'd have to be able to imagine living happily there. ST. David's touristyness would rule that out. Most architecturally beautiful would probably be Prague or Dubrovnik or maybe Wurzburg. I could live in any of those but I'd never have the money for Wurzburg.
Sydney is pretty "cool" too. And I'd never have the money for that either. Its become urber-trendy in recent years and property is fabulously expensive.

As for Scotland, Oban is indeed a nice place but it isn't a city. I like Stornoway too but that isn't a city either..

  18. There's quite a few cities without cathedrals LOL. Including one near me which must be a city 'cause the football teams name says so .

  19. i took the kids down to Glasgow last week to check out the science center and transport museum, the wee fella remarked how other older kids when walking around the kelvinbridge area kept giving him the nod, while edinbro has the edge re architecture, Glasgow wins it for its welcoming attitude, humorous outlook and patter. i too hate city's with a passion. but if push came to shove, Glasgow west end would do nicely. :upyeah:

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

Goat, I hope child services don't become involved!
