I notice the word "attempt" - it certainly is - (putting sarcastic hat back on) it just looks boring, unstyled/lacking, thrown together - generic, nothing noteworthy.
I think the Scrambler is a blank canvas for people who want something different, something easily modifiable. I hope that the bike sells well, and in a few years time we'll see many different custom shapes and designs to this bike, flat-trackers, street trackers, cafe racers, bratstyle bikes. I think that's what Ducati are trying to do, I hope so anyway. To create a bike that's great the way it is, but also allowing the owner to make it their own.
its probably me - don't like the style - less so with that one as its a guzzi....hate'em all....I can see where that one is going with the style - but you may as well replace the engine with an anvil...
I personally love the way new bikes work but prefer the way old bikes look, so a combination of the two is really interesting in my opinion
I think you're right. What many people want is an urban commuter bike that is light and looks cool when parked outside the Bar Italia in Soho. The Ducati scrambler is it. It will spend as much of its life off-road as a BMW X5. You don't need anything hi-tech for commuting (just decent brakes) so harking back to retro styling cues makes sense. As the world becomes increasingly urbanised, people spend more and more time in traffic and low speed limits. A bike like this fits the bill.
It looks shit! with all the hype and build up it's been like listening to a joke for twenty minutes waiting for the hilarious punchline only for it to pass you by without you even realising it!!!.:Banghead:
Hopefully not a repost. We were on these roads last week, wish we were still there! Video: Ducati Scrambler spied testing by MCN reader - Motorbike reviews | Latest Bike Videos | MCN
This looks like its been built to sell volume in the US and the current hipster trend for cafe racer/custom bikes. Personally I think it looks dull.
Having seen it, its kinda cool, but as you rightly say, there is no way it can hold a light to the hype. In an hour when it gets officially revealed, you get the feeling the overriding noise is going to be people en mass, saying 'is that it?'
Or like reading a brilliant thread for several months with lots of build up to the finished result and then .......
