Adding preload raise the rear ride height - you don't need an ohlins, just to set the static sag properly.
Ive often wondererd when you boys go out on your diavles do you go out with Harleys and other similar crusing type bikes or do you tend to stick with the sports bike crew, sport tourers etc? (or is there no general rule)
I go to 'multibike' events with my Harley mates on my Monster e.g. toy and easter egg runs but otherwise ride with another mate with an MV. Otherwise I'm a lone wolf. Problem is that most Harley riders are so slow, especially on the curvy bits, that I get bored. It's not necessarily their fault, most HD's have crap ground clearance and suspension. Love my old Road-King though. I should be acquiring a Diavel in '16 sometime although really the 1100evo is ideal for whizzin' up and down the Cat & Fiddle.
At least pegs fold up when scraped. Exhaust pipes don't. Touch them down too hard and the weight comes off the tyres and you can go straight on. If I was grinding out foot pegs regularly I'd be fitting rear sets and if the exhaust or another bit of rigid superstructure was touching down without trying too hard I'd be looking to increase ground clearance with the suspension. Especially on a bike like the Diavel which can take a lot of corner speed. If you haven't got the ground clearance to match at some point you're going to run out of luck.
Looking at buying a Diavel as well. The 999 lacking pillion seat....need some comfort for my missus trip to IsLe of Man Have test ridden two Diavels now Gen 1 and Gen 2 and scraping both on both sides. Rhs is the exhaust clamp bolt before the foot peg hero blob. Lhs is hero blob. So what are the options on jacking up the standard rear end ? Btw near the edge on the rear, good 1/2" strip on the front.....
Any updates guys....experienced same issue on a test ride. Want to get one, but not if ground clearance has me in a hedge.....
Nitron rear shock offers increased ride height - I also took 1/2" out of the 2-1 mid pipe for additional clearance and fitted adjustable rear sets
Bought the Diavel Isle of Man as intended.....totally brilliant over the mountain fast sections. Watch outs for exhaust dragging at the Verandah and Windy Corner. Oh and obligatory sparks around the Gooseneck. Had everything jacked up to max to raise the rear mind, so will still be looking at options. Focus on 999 for now but will talk to Maxton or someone about a custom build for what I need. There's so much rake a raised rear shouldn't cause a problem. Might fashion a little exhaust slider to save wearing through !!
