Screwed by Insurance - A Warning Tale!

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by antonye, Nov 12, 2012.

  1. I realise it's rather late to be replying to this post (your unfortunate experience being 2 years ago), but it has only just come to my attention.

As you rightly state, the breakdown cover we offer is on a per-vehicle basis and we do make a point of telling customers this. I've checked the policy schedule and it too clearly states the make, model, year and registration of the vehicle(s) that are covered.

From your comments you were obviously not aware of this, however it is never our intention to mis-lead people and we constantly review procedures and documentation to see if things can be made clearer. If you would like me to investigate the matter further, please reply privately with more details and I will personally look into your case.

The main advantages of breakdown on a per vehicle basis, are that it does not matter who is riding the bike (as long as they have the owner's permission) and more competitive pricing (cover tied to a named rider for any vehicle is inherently more expensive and generally excludes European cover).

As all new Ducati's come with 24 months' breakdown assistance included, we feel it would be unfair to offer a more expensive product that duplicates cover and leave the decision to what bikes and what level of breakdown assistance suits each customer and bikes they own. Many of our customers choose to only cover the bike they use for commuting or only put European cover on the bike they use for touring.

Again, I apologise if there has been any mis-communication and will personally look into the matter if you contact me.

  2. dont let the facts get in the way, please...........

  3. There is bery little advantage to having a single vehcile covered, not the individual, I call insurer BS on this esp as I have sold breakdown to insureres for over 15 years and know its all cost and product restriction driven

  5. I have to admit to feeling surprised by the original tale, in that surely after the phoning/internet, you get some sort of written document through the post which clearly states what you are and aren't covered for. Normally you'd read that, and then if you weren't happy, start to complain and get it fixed.

I do appreciate that the inertia to read insurance documents is very high indeed.
