20 miles yesterday and 50 this morning no drama just ear to ear grins! Love new bike and tyres, thanks for all the advice, seriously the best bike forum out there this... Oh and I got pulled this morning too by a very nice copper on a bike who let us off with our cheeky plates and visors, and exhausts.....etc...
No we were very lucky, he warned us that he could fine us £100 for our plates but didn't mention anything else. I've never had an issue with a 7x5 plate but my mates is 6x4 and the letters are quite small I think he was the reason he stopped us. He warned us that they were out in force in Cheshire and told us to stay safe and have fun. There were plenty about, it was a calm morning after that....
Excuse my ignorance, is scrubbing not to the point were the tyre ripples? You know, like gets really sticky?
No 'scrubbing in' is basically taking the shiney surface of a new tyre. When a new tyre is fitted its normally shiney (its still got release agent on it from the mould) so this needs to be 'scrubbed' off by running over tarmac. Tyres can be a bit slippy over parts of the surface till this is done. When people sell scrubs or go out on a set of scrubbed tyres (especially in F1) its basically because they have been run for a lap or 2 and the surface is worn slightly......in F1 they can be past their best already!
on track 3 long rights and 3 long lefts is usually more than enough keep it smooth, brake gently and don't wind the gas on too hard while still lent over for the 1st 20 mins of a road ride and you will be fine
I spent half hour with emery cloth on the tyres on Friday night as it was raining and I was cleaning the bike and check it over, it took all the shine off and I had no dramas over the weekend even with an emergency stop as it started raining yesterday. I wasn't going mad but had fun...
I don't know if sandpaper / emery will do anything for it. I've not got a Duc (yet) but I do have the Dunlop Sportsmart 2's. On my Gsxr 600 they are fantastic tyres. Took no time to scrub in. Just go easy first few miles and gradually lean into the corners. The tyres themselves really inspire confidence. The previous tyres I had were the OEM Bridgestone BT016's and they were tripe. I had no confidence and they were wore out in 3500 miles. I've got over 2k miles on my Dunlops and not even the hint of a flat spot yet.
I had the Bridgestone on my gixxer 6 they were pretty square at 3k when it went, dunlops are on a gixxer 750, read good things about them so we'll see how it goes...
Or you could go for the Continental Sport Attack series as they have no release agent, just had my second set of them put on my 1199, and they are inspiring, never had a problem with them and they are great in the wet should you ride in the wet or get caught out. Plus they are cheaper than Supercorsas!!
