Second Hand Panigale S, or New Panigale Base model.

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by ResB1199, Dec 26, 2012.

  1. I have an S model, and as the electronic steppers on the Ohlins are a bit of a gimmick I will likely replace the internals of the front forks with a 20mm Ohlins kit anyway, and the rear will be converted into a standard TTX (or swapped). I might even change the length of the shock to get a different set up on the back when they have sorted out new links. So, then you are really left with the lighter wheels between the two bikes.

Is it worth it? Probably not. You will put a Termi system on it anyway on either bike so if I was doing it again I would get a base model and spend the extra I had saved on a TTX aftermarket shock and 20mm cartridges (like Jarel did in that thread on the track bike). And a set of Termis.

  2. Definately the Termis, full or just the tail cans. I'd be happy with just the cans to be honest. Looks like £16k would get a very low mileage 2012 'S'. Now where's the nearest webuyanyinternalorgans.com dealer. ;) Still not sure what to do at this stage but I feel a visit to the local dealer in order. :)

Thanks Hammer for the info. :upyeah: Told the mrs her car will have to be on the drive from now on as i need the space in the garage for a new arrival in to not too distant future. Hopefully :)

  3. The 's' is a brilliant bike, but I am not good enough to tell the difference between the S and standard bike by riding alone. I am good enogh however, to notice the 5K difference (new) missing from my bank account.. To be honest once I have set the suspension up I will probably never touch it again, and so it all comes down to pub bragging rights. (unless you do LOADS of track work). You could always pocket more money by buying a second hand standard bike as mentioned. Whenever someone argues they have a 996S rather than a 996, they are usually flamed and told it makes little difference to resale in years to come. Will the 1199 be any different?

  4. is correct.

  5. it has to be the S as with a new one you are going to lose 20% of what you pay with the vat .the moment you sit on it and with the S you get all the goodies
it all depends if you have more money than sence i just like value for money

  8. didn't he put on the 30MM ohlinses?

is their eny more experioence with the DB levels on tracks?

my dealer says he sort of put something in the airbox with great result in lowering the noise...

  9. The problem with track db measuring is how they do it, ie 45 degrees from the rear of the bike places the meter right next to the panis side exiting exhaust. Listen to a bike with a rear exiting exhaust from the side, and it dosent seem as loud as a pani . I know that cadwell is aware of this and was trying to think of new ways of testing this. Also , I have not measured it my self but the stock pani cans seem louder to me than than the race termis withe the baffles in. Race termis with baffles out however is a totally different story!

  11. So, I spent the morning and early part of the afternoon today at my local Ducati Dealer. Looks like the Base Panigale with ABS for me. But I wasn't expecting to be considering an 848 EVO Corse either! Had a good look today and my first impressions when I first saw one don't appear to be there anymore.. Arghhh...

  12. Just an update as I was at the dealers this weekend.

What about a 2012 Panigale S EX Demo with 2,000 miles on the clock. Remainder of 2yr warranty and a new rear tyre. They will also, remap it (as there is a new remap for the 2013 models which is suppose to virtually get rid of the flat spot and give me the crappy looking covers which cover the exhaust amongst other things for) ..... £15,500. The bike looks almost perfect albeit the exhaust was rather rusty!

So that's Ohlin's front n rear, forged wheels and DES on the 'S' but surprised to see it's no lighter because of the wheels. Ahh well.

Still leaning towards the Base model with ABS but the S is temping. lol

  17. Every day is a school day :upyeah:

  18. if you track it, find a used base abs.. add the termi cans and a rapidbike with some good mappings.. front fgrt and rear ttx ohlins.. and your set. this will be the most bang for the fewest fo pounds.. :) you'll be 2k above a new base... and saves you the pain of the first 1K idling about... :)
