Security Device Recommendations.....

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by firecat0_0, Aug 10, 2014.

  1. I agree entirely. I have made plenty of similar remarks (most of us have). Unfortunately freedom of speech is heavily restricted now and no I'm not paranoid just speaking from inside the system.
    If only people knew...

Sorry for hijacking the thread by the way.

Security? I have a tracker (biketrac) as I occasionally leave the bike unattended and carry 2 disc locks. Would prefer a chain but the good ones are too damn heavy to carry so that's only used in the garage

  2. Must of been more to it than that, can't see a custodial for a victimless crime.
Would hazard he was not a man of previous good character?
Would have thought a police information notice and the £60 fine that accompanies it?

  3. Yes he was a man of previous good character and was not known to police - not even a speeding ticket (I have access to his his file and that includes a full history)

Obv I can't give specific details but he was convicted of threats to kill and incitement. The fact he had the means to carry out those threats was an aggravating feature hence the custodial sentence. Though not common place it's not rare either. More and more people are defending their property and the state is taking a hard line in order to deter vigilantes. Not saying I agree just saying these sentences are being passed. Currently my prison has 19 people serving custodials for verbalising a crime, ie saying they will do something but not actually carrying it out. This one is the most pertinent as the "threat" was made on social media and was not directed at any one in particular.

In this case was the sentence manifestly excessive? I'd say yes. Does he have grounds for appeal? I'm not a lawyer but I'd say so. Will he win an appeal against his sentence? I'd say he has a good chance, but he will have served his sentence long before that appeal is heard. Sometimes the system sucks and it's hard to be a part of it...

I'm not preaching here I share the same sentiments as most of you and I have a sense of humour. Just saying be careful. These things do happen and I for one am sick of seeing people come into reception for making what most of us would see as a flippant remark

Re the edits, damn auto correct. always read your posts back if you're on your iphone. Doh!

  4. I had very little time for the police prior to your post, that's now reduced even further.
Still I'm sure their stats look good now.

  5. Amen to that Ronin.

I might be inside the system but I'm not a fan of the police either especially seeing what they bring (and not always via the courts) to me.

  6. Thanks Kempy for the inside view, had no idea you could be locked up for words.

  7. They'd lock you up for your thoughts if they could get to them.
Only be a matter of time before technology will make that a reality.

  9. its hard to believe people are openly discussing how they protect their pcp financed bikes. If you cant afford to lose it don't buy it...........

  10. ^^^ Seriously? So by that nobody should buy just one bike, they should have the funds to able to buy two just incase some thieving scum steals it! That is probably the most ridiculous and stupidest thing ive ever heard!

  11. Not been here that long, huh?

  12. Only since this site opened and also just a little while before the previous Ducati forum died so probably not.

  13. Or the mans a genius. Best excuse ever to own more than 1 bike

  14. I know I'm a bit late to this....but I swear by roadlok's. ...expensive but worth it.

  15. Put TT un up on a pallet in your garage - no one will go fukin near

  16. Agree with a lot of the comments, bikes more at risk when out if site, I read in another forum someone went to BSB chained they're helmets to the bike and on return they'd been stolen, nothing's safe

  17. Made out of aluminium .....couldn't have picked anything softer?
would be a neat idea if made out of Titanium

  18. Well, its been said before - its only a deterant - the reason I went for the roadlok is its small and compact and stops someone immediately wheeling it away - plus you only need to carry the pin which is a nice alternative to a whole disclock or chain. Titanium would probably double the price....

  19. Nothing will stop a dedicated thief getting your bike. Nothing. The best you can hope for is to slow them down or make someone elses bike look easier to steal.

Mates Dad was local Crime Prevention Police Officer. He had a Harley with all the trimmings. Parked in garage. Locked to ground anchor with moossive chain. PIR lights etc. Two car parked in line and in front of garage with only room to move down the side sideways. They simply cut the wires to the lights, cropped the chains and then they carried it over the cars and into whatever vehicle they arrived in. All whilst the said family were asleep in bed.

My garage is alarmed and I always forget and keep setting it off and making my ears bleed. I chain my bikes and park my Saab right up against the garage. My bikes have been chipped and dotted. But if a dedicated thief wanted to steal it, there's nothing I could realistically do to prevent it. I considered wiring up the lock to the mains but I'd likely just fry myself instead.
