Security....

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by markm, Jan 22, 2013.

  1. If I was your wife I'd sneak out in the night and say subliminal messages and stuff through the baby monitor :)

Good idea except mine used to pick up other monitors and other babies???
    CCTV is useless ...
Our cars at work where getting vandalised and all they do is pull scarfs up round faces and hoods down :(

  2. Uprating garage door security, should stop them in their tracks...

  3. A word of warning. Up here, manchester area, they are bang at it. My mate called to let me know he has just had x3 expensive mountain bikes stolen, approx 10 grands worth. He had the top of the range Abus granit lock and chain. The scum bags are operating from a large white van with false plates relating to a similar hire van in machester, hence no detection via ANPR mobiles. The police reckon they are using some kind of hydraulic cutter which goes through the Abus like a hot knife. My mate has them on CCTV but its useless with the false number plates. All you can do is try to slow them down. Until we have some realistic justice I fear things will only get worse.

  4. We're moving into a new house towards the end of this year with a proper double garage for the first time ever. As part of our options list I'm going to get an alarm contact on the garage door and also a PIR detector inside the garage.

I really don't want another alarm on my bike as I've had that on my last two (so that's 8yrs of alarms on bikes). I am going to shotfire an anchor to the floor once we move in and I can work out where I want it. I'll go for an approved lock and anchor and use them as routine. It's a pain, but I prefer the prevention approach rather than tracking it down once it's already gone.

Bollocks that we have to do all this isn't it?!

  5. What do you use when your out and about and have to leave the bike?

  6. Common sense...

  7. My thoughts exactly. Call me paranoid but...

  8. Fig ..... I'm doomed then :(
for I don't have any of that .

  9. You can't protect your bike from professional thieves on the street, if they want it they'll have it. But a simple chain through the back wheel to something immovable will put off most chancers. If you're leaving the bike all day in a public area, good luck. For the rest of us a simple chain or disc lock will do the job. Personally, I don't bother at all, I'm just careful where I park it.

  10. I'm similarly minded. I worry whenever I leave my bike outside and rarely park in a city centre. I'm fortunate that I don't usually need to leave it anywhere "unsafe" but if I do I take a chain and will only park somewhere I know. Most bike bays now have a railing you can chain to which is a good help. But carting a chain is a huge hassle.

  11. I used to lug heavy duty chain around was a mare.
    I use alarmed disclock .
However who pays attention to car alarms ? Nobody nowdays.

  12. Immobilisers are more like the right idea than alarms I guess but they don't stop scumbags sticking the bike in a van to take away and work on elsewhere.

    :(

  13. Just watching BBC news and they are showing a baby monitor camera that will go straight to your phone. Bike sitting is no longer a problem. Just called the wife to show her and she seems to think I am completely mad. She has no idea.

    Regards Steve
