Seized Screws

  1. Unless I’m mistaken sub frame removal requires taking off the rear shock. I don’t have the tools to do this. I’m going to plus gas the rear bolts and leave it overnight, then try to drift them free. If this fails I’ll Dremel the top off of them. I assume if I cut the heads off entirely I won’t have a problem removing the other side from the exhaust?

I’m getting a carbon heat shield, the original can be scrapped I don’t care.

  2. Oh, torx bit didn’t work, I don’t have one that’ll do the job. Hoping the easy outs listed above will get it out. The front fender is loose, so I don’t know what’s keeping that bolt in. I can’t see any corrosion.

  3. Be careful with the front fender. The bolts screw into a thin bracket that is an integral part of the cast fork base. You don’t want to go snapping one of those.

  4. Yeah, it is a worry. I’ll go easy. If it looks like I can’t do it I’ll take it to the shop.

  5. No need to take shock off to remove subframe :upyeah:

  6. Even better if you have stud removers.

  7. Sorted the front fender one, the screw extractor did it on the second attempt. The feeling was so good!

Next up the heat shield area, but waiting for the carbon replacement to arrive first.

Can ride it again now :)
