Same here, in the South West. SWMBO & I went for a walk on the beach today, well that was the plan. Got there and then place was rammed, busier than a bank holiday in summer when the suns out and it’s 25 degrees. People on top of each other and shoulder to shoulder in the queue for fish & chips and sharing tables with strangers to eat them . But all the tables are outside so that’s OK - not. Selfish eejits. Interesting what you say about the cluster of cases due to a dude returning from Cheltenham. SWMBO always said there’ll be clusters of cases around the Curragh, North Tipp, Kildare and Ballydoyle & Coolmore studs due to Cheltenham. It was obvious for even Stevie Wonder to see.
Had a customer in petrol who delighted in telling me he had been and was going to Cheltenham races after I asked him to swipe his own loyalty card and I had low immunity and trying to keep myself safe
It’s just not necessary though! I went out on bike today, did around 200 miles and stopped 3 times! One in a deserted lay by for a fag and twice for fuel! I kept my helmet on,payed contactless then I was gone!, last fuel stop was at crossgates Llandrindod! Lots of bikers there just going about things as normal!!!
Some people are just treating the situation as a paid holiday. The government has said it will pay people’s wages but the reality of it is that this will be done via HMRC. HMRC don’t have the mechanism to pay people directly as they don’t have individual employees bank details. The money will be paid to employers who will then in turn pay their staff. Most of the businesses that have shut down are not trading and therefore are seeing no source of income but the expenses are still mounting. Do you really think businesses are going use that money to pay staff or ensure the bills are paid so that there’s still somewhere for it’s employees to return to?.
Our grandparents were asked to go to war, we’ve been asked to sit on our sofas to let others fight the war I’m going into work as not been told otherwise yet but there’s only three of us in one room so let’s see.
hmm. what to do, what to do. its a big workshop, lots of space. force the lads to use the gloves that I provide and get customers to give me their PIN numbers. I might even make my own coffee. they need a wage, I need a wage. the hospital is just around the corner, I have a lot of NHS staff and care workers as customers. its a rural area and everyone needs there own transport (just making excuses now). give it a day or two and see if the message has sunk in with voluntary lock down? am I being a hypocrite by going in, how much risk can I mitigate and what am I bringing home? fuckeroonie.
Seriously @finm, what are the mechanisms for transfer of virus between staff, and between customers and staff? Eliminate, control and mitigate those effectively and there’s no reason to not carry on. That’s what hospitals do. Would it work to keep the customers outside, wipe down keys, steering wheels, gear stick, handbrake and door handles with anti-bacterial wipes, and take money electronically?
all good ideas I haven't been doing. but I will from today. its a v,informal workshop, customers just come in for a bleather with the lads or myself. I guess I will need to change that too.
Yeah Finm, ban your boys and customers from chit chat. Sounds harsh but it’s just looking after them. Keep customers a good 2m away and better still, outside. If you have an office... put a sign up. 1 person at a time. Good luck, stay healthy.
Is there enough room to keep the work lads in their own area away from each other. That’s what I’m doing. Each person has their own work to do, they do it as an individual and don’t interact with one another and keep out of each other way. They also bring a packed lunch which they eat by themselves. To be fair it’s easier for me to do this as the work is spread across a few buildings and I don’t have customers to deal with. It’s a matter of keeping everyone as far apart as possible. I’m really worried about us getting it. Not just because of the usual stuff but if one of us gets it then the chances are we’ll all get it and at the same time. I’m not sure how we’d cope, it’s not like we can just shut the doors until we’re all better. Animals need feeding and milking and we’re just about to start lambing.
yip, all good ideas, i'v just had the chat with the lads, they are all walking about feeling a lil gay in their blue nitrial gloves. and aye, animals still need fed. something else we probably dont think about enough.
Exactly correct, Lads going out for a ride only stopping for fuel and paying con-tactless !!!! I have to go to my local petrol station to try and get milk this morning, I know I have to pull the door open with the handle (one contact) I know the milk is in a cooler that I have to slide the door open (second contact) I have to take the milk to the cash machine and even If i pay cash less I have to make sure I don't touch the counter to avoid another possible contact, I can push the exit door with my shoulder thankfully, this might seem trivial to some but my wife is high risk so it isn't to us. All this for a pint of milk, think of the possible contact going to the supermarket for high risk families. Think of others and don't make unnecessary journeys.
Can you not get a friend or neighbour to get one instead and leave it on your doorstep? If really worried, pour the milk straight into a clean container then dispose of the milk tub so you don’t need to touch it again. Then wash hands and face (Again!). One contact, then immediately clean yourself.
Just keep your gloves on if you can That’s what I was doing all be it woolly ones I can wash, to pick up anything push trolleys etc.
