  3. What? Fell off... lol

Marquez knew what he was doing, he's not nicknamed 'the smiling assassin' for nothing... he got outfoxed by the goat... he knows it.

  4. yeah the Schwantz/Rainey battles were great,i loved Schwantz's win it or bin it style.it took some guts from Doohan to come back after the horrendous injury to his leg,he could have easily won 7 500cc championships.

  5. So he's asking for a reduction from 3 points on his licence to 1 point. He's admitting he did wrong then by admitting he should be punished.

Hasn't a precident been set in Moto2, where a rider taking another out in qualifying had 3 points on their licence. Sorry, the protagonist's names escape me.

I look at it 2 ways.
    • If the CAS have no power to increase the penalty, then Rossi has nothing to lose and may as well appeal. Although I think he should accept the decision of the FIM
    • If the CAS have the power to increase the penalty, he's playing a very risky game in my opinion. He was lucky not to be black flagged or have the points he won in the race deducted.
Either way, as said above, he realises this is his last chance to get the 10th title and all bets are off. I do thiink his reputation is slightly more tarnished for doing this though.

For what it's worth, I think when you look at the permutations, even if he starts from the back of the grid, he's not out of this yet as I can't see Lorenzo winning in Valencia. It's possible but I thnk Dani may have the pace.

  6. Anybody offering odds on mighty shit mouse beating. J lo in valencia

  7. The precedent set in the moto 2 case involved a rider admitting that he deliberately sought to knock the other off. VR is I think saying he broke the rules but MM falling off was an unintended outcome and not pre meditated.

  8. If you could unintentionally knock your rival off 2 times a season and only recieve 1 point each time, you'd give yourself a nice big cushion in the championship. :astonished:

  9. Thought that Moto2 guy (Hannika?) got 5 points for admitting to trying to knock the other guy off?

  10. So ....if the penalty is reduced or moved to the first race next year...Lorenzo (or another)can knock Rossi off and worry about it next year?

  11. The position is now becoming clearer. Although the FIM's hasty and inadequate procedures have indeed been exhausted, it remains possible to appeal further to the Arbitration Tribunal in Lausanne, or ultimately to the Supreme Court of Switzerland. This is rather reassuring.

So the immediate preliminary question is whether the "go to the back of the grid" penalty on Rossi is to be suspended interim until the outcome of the substantive appeal, or left in place notwithstanding the pending appeal. My guess would be suspended.

The litigation is becoming really fascinating. Further developments awaited with interest!

  12. I have never raced bikes my self but do imagine than in knocking another rider off one is taking a very big risk of coming off onesself ???????

  13. Not as crazy as it sounds. If Rossi loses the CAS hearing, is there course for him to appeal that decision? If there was and it couldn't be heard until after the race in Valencia, then his FIM punishment couldn't be actioned until the appeal of the CAS ruling, even if the CAS increase his punishment to say a ban, if he appeals it and it can't be heard before Valencia, he'll start from his qualifying position............Is this his game? He won't care about a punishment next season, he'll be happy with his 10 trophies !

  14. I must have been typing at the same time as yourself.

  15. I think it pivots on mitigating circumstances. If the CAS believe MM was partly the architect of his own downfall (literally) and had something to answer for then they may think that VR being penalised alone was unfair and want to mitigate the injustice by a reduced penalty. That seems to be the angle VR is aiming at. I would say it is a long shot as whether you agree or not with anything MM did, he didn't break any current rules.

If they don't view MM as at fault in anyway then it's not the job of the CAS or the FIM under the current rule system, to enforce what they may think is or isn't in the spirit of racing but not against the rules. Mike Webb has already said MM was in his opinion riding in an unsporting manner but didn't break any rules so couldn't be penalised.

  16. VR is not daft also. If the decision is delayed and the points temporarily removed and VR goes on to be champion albeit only until the appeal outcome, he knows it would take a very brave man or organisation to announce they were stripping him of the title.

My bet is CAS either kick it into the long grass or uphold the FIM decision.

  17. If the punishment is suspended pending an appeal of the CAS ruling, Rossi will be racing Marquez again. Almost worth him getting away with his disgraceful behaviour to witness round 2.

  18. But it may not matter if he appeals. If the appeal can't be heard before the race, what happens? Like i say, this could be the game.

  19. Not at all silly ,,,,,,, certainly not as silly as suggesting that MM was actually involved in racing with VR and not just hell bent on spoiling his race in a deliberate , obvious ( to all but the blind lemon sellor ) and unsporting way ,,,,,,, good on vr taking it all the way

  20. Is it any mistake he's waited almost a week to lodge this CAS issue?

I think not, time is definately on his side with this. The CAS should have ruled on Monday and heard his appeal on Tuesday. He's played a blinder if you ask me. Whether I agree with it or not.
