  1. £1000+vat for a tool to do a particular kind of bearing.
£500+ to do a particular kind of clutch.
£4000+ for a diagnostic machine + £90+ per month every month for updates
£1000s on many other tools. Dealers will have spent much more on special tools.
    £3000 py for lecky
    £1600 py for water.
    £3000 py for insurance.
£17500 py rent. I qualify for rates relief. The bigger places won't.
    £30k wages before overtime.
I spend a bit on training Dealers will spend a fortune.
    Switch machine £3000 py easy.
    accounting work £3000 py easy.
God knows on all the bits and bobs
Luckily not to much but warranty work the supplier won't pay the labour for without making it really awkward.
Just for a lil context folks

  2. I moaned about Ducati Dundee in this thread earlier. However, I was back with the Pan 1199 earlier this week as my local Aberdeen dealer was unable to resolve the fuel map sensor problem. Spoke to Scott in Glasgow and explained the issue, he explained the solution, change both horizontal and vertical sensors at the same time. Booked in, took bike down 10 days later and spent the morning thrashing/ thoroughly enjoying a Multi V4S (I think I need one). Picked up 4hrs later and everything tickety boo. So they more than made up for previous failings and on this occasion left me very happy…albeit £430 poorer. Can’t recall the technician’s name, but he was excellent.

  3. How dare you come on here and try and justify how expensive servicing rates are. It's an utter disgrace, and I think we should all write to our MP's.

As a business owner, it frustrates me when people can't see past the shiny stuff and realise the costs involved in the background. They'd soon all be moaning if they had to travel over 100 miles for a service/ warranty work.

  7. Let's revive an oldie.....
Dealers take the piss "I've got your money, now EFF-OFF (period/full-stop/whatever)"
Far away previously, some advice given here was buy a 20yr old bike and service it yourself.
    Well...
A bevel head 860 in the 80's was ok.
A Cagiva Elephant 750 a bit later was ok.
My recent MY05 MS620 looks scary. Only relatable manual is the monster one with loads of laptop crap. Sorry, I'm done.
Switch it off / switch it on.
    Change the oil & filter.
Take the demso valve stuff slow and easy.
    Cheers
