Serviced, cleaned and gagging for some decent conditions!

  1. Mongoose did you get off eBay by any chance? I've been eyeing up all the 749s for a month or two so might have seen it

  2. Yeah. I was holding out for a red frame 749/999 for some time. Just couldn't seem to find one that was just right for me. A few came and went so when I found this 749 in Carlisle I shot up the M6 like a scalded cat! Was really looking for a monoposto but unfortunately this one isn't so I'm gonna try and get the parts and do the conversion my self. Great bike so far. 1owner with full duc history. Just need the sun to come out so I can get out some more. Are you looking for one yourself?

  3. Thanks mongoose - and yep they do work ok. Think they are ducati performance parts? - not sure as were on when I bought from previous owner.
    Enjoy your bike:upyeah:

  4. Be careful when removing stickers!

Many moons ago I picked up my 'new to me' 999R.

It had a numbers plate sticker on the front that I didn't like so went about taking it off. It started to come off easily then crack! It pulled a 5cm square area of paint off!

I think the tank will be less risky but take care and use some heat.

  5. PS Nice bike!

  6. I'm buying a 749 Mono post off of a member here, who is currently of on some travels. So I'm organising parts in the mean time. Upon his return the real work will begin.

Starting with a pretty standard 749S 2004 grey swing arm. Going to strip, get the frame painted red, it already has a black subframe, got a black new type swing arm to go on. A DP slipper clutch, Brembo RCS master cylinders, looking for a set of new type front end from a 1098 or 848, got a 1098 loom and 848 dash to go on. Then will be brembo m4 mono blocks, some carbon fairing painted as a standard red 749S. Then new bearings, fluids, consumables and back together to be ridden to death. Or more likely stored until next winter when I should be able to convince my missus to let me have a full engine rebuild and blue print. :) It's keeping me sane on a long job away from home :)

RE: Stickers - when removing stickers, peel back so that the sticker folds immediately back on itself at the point where it is lifting up. So the top face is folded back on to the top face. All removal force is transferred to the sticker and not the surface underneath :)

  7. Thx re both posts - gonna leave it on as I think it looks ok inho (strange as is red but it seems to "go" ok)

  8. You should start a new thread, would like to see how it turns out.

    :upyeah:

  9. Ps no scuffs under the stickers :)

  10. Cheers 749, how you doing? Everyone has an opinion on stuff (stickers previously mentioned) which is obv fine - I'm well pleased with the bike (stickers, tank pad et al) and have changed nought other than add a db screen (helps nicely with the wind blast), a very little 3m clear film on the tank spine and some dp rear sets (bling value lol). How you sir / what are you riding at the mo? Cheers:upyeah:

  11. Still have your Daytona :) just waiting for the weather to break but do miss ducatis badly :(

  12. Having a blast on a panigale didn't help either haha

  13. Ah - glad you still have the Daytona:) - hope its not been any probs. Know what you mean re ducati - there is deffo something addictive bout em!! Esp if you tease yaself by jumping on a panigale - bit out of my range I must admit, but v nice bike. Been out a couple of times this year but as you say a bit of weather wouldn't hurt:(

  14. You should go buy an 899 and sell me back my bike :)

  15. Lol - I'd quite like an 899 but we have moved into Suffolk and funds seem to have dried up - at least that's what Justine thinks regarding the bike money pot:(
749 is bloody good fun bike, better than I hoped and even pretty comfy:)

  16. Comfy is relative hahahahaha

  17. That is true - being a bit of a short arse helps with not being too cramped. Getting cooked by the exhaust in the summer is the main discomfort - hotter than the sun in traffic lol

  18. I know the burn Hahahaha
