Shakey Wins High Court Claim After Crash

  1. So clearly it concludes that a mistake was made by MSV, which they later rectified after the accident (lessons learnt being implemented), although we all know Stuart Higgs won’t take the blame, one of his lackies will be fired, even though he will have had overall sign off.

    the very same scenario could well have occurred at MagnyCours this year tbf, only that Toprak was super lucky (even with his fairly serious injuries).

    it still leaves the issue of personal responsibility, of which we all have to take for our own safety. We can not allow ourselves to simply become a society constantly looking for blame in every other direction.

    And the final thing I’ll say on it is that I have ridden a couple of circuits in the UK a lot, there isn’t anywhere where I don’t go into a 75mph+ and not in the back of mind think this would hurt! And Shakey did this for a job, it was his profession, so as I have to take accountability for all my actions at my work, he should accept at least responsibility for his part. This remains to be seen, now the case is done he might talk openly about his fault, not withstanding the lessons learnt by the circuit, but I doubt it.

    for anyone doing trackdays at Snett, don’t ride into the barrier at turn 3, JP has the Type A packed away in the shed!

    Well done to Shakey! Make the bastids pay! But, I did a track day at Snetters years ago (20?) and did like the place! My ride up there was way more dangerous!

  3. Snetterton is a fantastic circuit, it really is. It’s fast, it flows really well, infact if it had more elevation change I think people would rate it up there with Donnington etc.

    My gut feel is that they will tighten turn 3 up to slow it down a bit, they can’t bring the corner in because it would reduce run off for turn 6 (I think), and they have another issue with the corner which is that as you come out of it already really hard on the power the barrier is only really 5 metres off the track so I think they will slow it down.

    Infact I think they will do this at a lot of UK circuits, Oulton and Caldwell will get corners tightened to make allowances for high terminal speeds. Hizzies chicane at Oulton used to be just a mental fast right hander, it was incredible, but tyre grip was probably half what it is now and the fastest bikes were probably 175hp.

    will it ruin the racing? Done right, probably not…

  5. It’s bullshit tho. Is that fence there now 100% for trackdays? How many crates have resulted in same outcome? How is it not foreseen every corner is a risk therefore every corner should have that fill treatment? Including IOM. And NW 200 etc.
     
  6. Seems like the folk that own the track were cutting corners on costs. If you knew someone like SB was going to be riding the track, surely you’d make sure you had the correct barriers.

    If I was doing a track day, I’d happily pay more, if I knew that the correct barriers were in place.

  7. It doesn't seem so, his accident appears to be an unusual event hence they put them on. Question still is, if its good enough for BSB why are they not there full time?

  8. definitely a fair point, at Bemsee the top power bike guys are lapping 1:55, and even in thunderbike the top few were lapping 1:56-57 on 2002 GSXR1k’s!

    the BSB lap record is 1m 46, so perhaps it’s the 10 seconds that makes the difference but even at 1:56 the speeds through corners like turn 3 are absolutely huge.

  12. Erm :thinkingface: ……. as it’s not an official BSB sanctioned test, it can only be a track day to keep within the rules. Is it a track day that you and I could easily book on to ? It's not what you know, it’s who you know ;) Andy
