Ok, new argument / discussion then. Do we think Rossi should even be considered for a seat after 2014? I personally think he'll step down , but if that's the case and by going on this years results so far , was it a bad move for Yamaha in a racing sense? I'm not talking marketing, just racing?
Rossi is there for more than just his racing ability. He is an international marketing commodity and he makes more money for Dorna than all the other riders combined. Of course he'll be offered a seat post 2014. If he takes it, is another discussion all together
Rossi won't step down. He's a solid fourth in the championship and has a race win and some podiums under his belt this season. Okay, not the Rossi of old, but it's certainly not bad. I reckon he'll go another season. And from Yamaha's point of view he's a marketing dream, so it's smiles all round. The question is, who would you put on his bike? And do you think he'd do better?
Rabat 2015 is probably who I'd pick but that depends if he continues in the same form he does now. Its just a pity hes bloody Spanish and has a face for radio maybe Thomas Luthi as he's at least a different nationality and he's definately got the skills, just needs the ride. Personally if marquez is going to get top end machinery im now of the opinion the rest of the moto2 mob need the same if that excitement is going to transfer to motogp. its no good having one given all the breaks in life and the others have to scrape by on satelite or customer bikes as its been proven time and time again that they all can live with Marquez on semi equal machinery. He's good yes but stand out head and shoulders above some of the other Moto2 boys? Im not so sure. I think Moto2 has just given those lads a different schooling, way different to the 250's etc and they all ride loose and backing it in style. I say just chuck them all in to battle with MM and lets have some fairing bashing To be honest as much as Rossi draws the crowd by the end of 2014 i just think he should take a step aside and let a youngster have a go, everybody will be doing the 2014 'love in' with MM anyway so unless they offer it redding (i hope he gets the other repsol off Dani) then I reckon give it another Moto2 boy.
Worrying thing pretty much in all Motogp classes is that unless you are Spanish you aren't near the front (Redding excepted)...... It would be nice just to have one non Spanish champion. I think one weekend all 9 podiums were Spanish.
That is purely and simply down to the years of effort the Spanish have put into bringing talented young racers to the fore. It's no coincidence that Redding, Smith and Danny Kent all did their time in Spain, and look how well it's worked for them
At Brno ten years ago only four Spaniards were in the points across all three classes. The Spanish have made the effort to develop their riders to MotoGP standard, and as bike racing is huge in Spain, the sponsorship is there. In the UK it's a hugely minority sport.
But what comes first - the race wins or the sponsors..? Perhaps we need to nurture our young racers in the same way in order to tempt potential sponsors. Perhaps we need to get results before they become interested.
a lot of racing and people getting interested in racing at the lowest level. talent gets spotted and realised at this lowest level. with the ever tightening restrictions on noise at tracks it it possible that the realisation of available talent is not what it could be because of more limited opportunities. ideally do we need relaxation on noise around tracks for talent to hone its skills and progress...???
Have posted this before but from what I saw in spain its no wonder. They treat it like we treat football. Sat morning clubs full of kids from those too small to be out og a kids sit to those large enough to back it into a corner and slide a bike at will...they were about 10!
Looks like there could be six Brits in MotoGP next year..... how many more do we want?... Soup :: The British Are Coming. THE BRITISH ARE COMING! :: 10-16-2013
