Which bit of Germany do you like? I'm a little underwhelmed with the place myself, apart from Bavaria. But then Bavaria is Alpine and there's a lot of those sorts of places in Switzerland. Where the food's better. I confess to not having spent much time in Germany despite it being on my doorstep. France always gets the nod. The bad thing about Germany is that the towns are often a bit shite, seeing as they were flattened by the Allies. Of course, most towns in the UK are a bit shite, having been flattened by the Germans. The French, as surrender monkeys, have great towns that were flattened by no one.
The Eifel region is beautiful, we started going to the Nordschliefe about 7 years ago and have been back every year but it's not about the ring anymore, it's about the region. When I left my job at the beginning of June I just needed to get away, took the kids and mrs in the car this time and it was brilliant. I just love the food, the attitude of the people, the culture, the roads......the roads..... Oh, did I mention the roads? the family love it there, if I could land any job around that neck of the woods I'd move there in a heart beat. Better still I'd like to learn German and start a business over there
This is it. I turned up at a work today for a meeting with some IT contractors. I came in wearing my usual attire for the winter - hi viz, textiles, etc. The IT people looked at me like something they'd scraped off their shoe. On Saturday night, out for dinner with the girlfriend's family, and her old man said he was telling me - telling me I ask you! - to get a car and give up motorcycles. Then I had to endure the usual story of someone's third cousin's dogwalker's nephew who had an accident back in the 70s. Not that his opinion matters to me much, he reads the Daily Mail after all! If you ride a bike in the UK it's because you're a hooligan or someone who's too poor/immature to own a car. And seeing how the rest of this thread has gone, I came back from my holiday to Italy wondering where I could start learning Italian and what I'd do once I got there...
