Great festival at Shelsley Walsh today, and it stayed dry (just). I went up the hill four times - three on my Ducati plus a run as a passenger in a Guzzi-engined Pembleton three wheeled car.

Good day, four runs for me too. Didn't seem as busy as last year but still extremely well run and plenty of interesting stuff to see. Few images going onto the team instagram and I shot a couple of rolls of film which I'll develop today and post up on my own instagram.

Shelsley Walsh also has an ancient water-mill. Much of the machinery is still in working order, including wooden cogwheels and leather belting.

 

This is a bike which I have never seen in the flesh before; an Ossa Yankee 500 two-stroke twin:

 

This is the Pembleton trike in which I was taken up the hill as a passenger, by the kindness of Paul the owner and driver. Unlike a Morgan, it is front-wheel drive and has inboard disc brakes. It was fantastic fun.



Incidentally the blue trike in the background is a Grinnall Scorpion, essentially a BMW.

Does the Uni-cycle have brakes?

Do you know how the braking system works if it does indeed have one?

 

The #22 bike is the one I rode, was that you on the Multi @Pete1950 I was chatting to at the top?

Yes, I think I was the only Multistrada there.

 

This is a Uni-cycle.


The machines at Shelsley Walsh are what are known as "Monowheels".

Apparently gentle application of brakes works as well as gentle acceleration. But heavy braking results in "gerbilling". If you have ever seen a gerbil on an exercise wheel, you can imagine how that goes.
