Shoei X Spirit 3

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by comfysofa, Sep 28, 2016.

  1. i moved from the original x spirit to an arai rx7 gp (i opted not to go for the latest rx7 v)

the arai has been excellent which is funny because i never thought i had an arai head...

yes its a little crappy with the airflow (for me at least) and the air wing at the top is a bit flimsy but the fit and quality is superb

what a load of tosh that arai head thing is....

  2. Strange....never had the "head thing" - any lid ive tried on, providing its the right size of course....

With regards to the air flow and the crappy bit...if im paying 650 nicker for a lid then its all got to be good!

  3. i lied earlier

i didnt have an xpspirit before but a xr 1000

    soz

  4. Yep. Honestly I wouldn't touch AGV with a barge pole... the very first 'pista GP' that came out, we turned it upside down and squeeze it and it flexed so much it popped the visor off, that was a £300 helmet at the time. But along will be dozens of people saying they are incredible....

Honestly it's cyclic, when 'Phoenix' were importing Arai the backup and spares was incredible, but then it moved to another distributor. The distributor has a lot to do with things like returns so Shoei could be amazing for 10 years then some other disty get involved and people are slagging them off.

The Shoei XR1000 is by far the best lid I've ever had, it was such a step forward and to a large extend Arai haven't kept up. I mean side pods on a helmet in 2016? Really? They create noise and they break... but the actual helmets are otherwise great, really strong and I've seen some after some horrific accidents.

I believe there is a new standard coming out next year, EC2205 should be replaced with EC2206 so u 'may' get some deals but tbh helmet city etc are smashing the prices so hard you may not see much difference!

I can see why this is such a big decision though, not just for safety but the cost, it's eye watering. I've been lucky and always got big discounts on mine but shelling out £750 on a helmet really needs some research!

I will shut up now but to close, every biker who came in would say 'I'm not a Shoei Head' or 'can't get on with Arai' but honestly a good helmet is one that fits, and if u try and Shoei and it's perfect, and I mean perfect then it will be safer than an ill fitting one. It sounds incredibly obvious and like I'm teaching u to suck eggs but get into a really good shop and spend an hour trying LOADS on. Look at stuff like Schuberth also

  5. I am a Shoei head. They fit me better than any other make. Unfortunately my GT Air drives me mad with misting up and the vents don't do much. Its not that quiet either for a sports touring helmet.
The only other lid I've found which is as comfortable is a Schuberth SR1 which they've discontinued..

  6. Haha you kinda proved my point a little there! I have an x-spirit, and had a xr1000 but couldn't even get a Shoei xr900 on without a headache... same with Arai, can't wear a quantum but the chaser is fine.

Honestly, it's completely model dependant. At the end of the day, the advise has to be just got and try them all and get one that's comfortable

  8. I've had an XR1000 and the X Spirit 2, both great bid of kit. I went for the NXR as my next lid and I'm really glad I did. Peripheral vision on it is the best I've ever had, I can barely see the sides when I have it on. For just under £400 it's excellent value.

  9. Nxr looks nice... What's the airflow like....?

  10. wise words that man

  11. Good. I've used it all summer and I've not had a sweaty head at all. It's got nice aero as I've had not had any head bobble at all to speak of. It's much lighter than my X Spirit 2 and physically smaller too, I'm size 58 and it fits just right.

Only criticism I can level at it is that the front chin vent can open and close unevenly on ocassions, it hasn't got a nice rigid action like my previous lids, but then it is wider so I can forgive it for that. It's not something that's bothered me and it's being really picky and not really a flaw worth worrying about.

  12. Definately worth considering.... A fair bit cheaper too....im guessing they're still a currently produced lid?

  13. Funnily no one has sung the praises (that much of arai).... I'd always expected a 50 50 split between the two but having said that i am, in all fairness asking about the Shoei!

  14. I have a Arai rx7gp and a Chaser v and have just purchased a NXR the main reason was i replaced my wifes Shark (horrid helmet) with a xr1100 and was impressed with the quality,i wear both the rx7 and the NXR all the time, both fit well and offer good ventilation and very good vision,i wear earplugs and find both a little noisy,i find 100% that the NXR is better on my Multi as wind blast is forced towards the shoulder area and the rx7 works slightly better on the Pani.

  15. Anyone had to buy internal padding for the shoei's any idea of costs..?

  16. I am mightily impressed with the Shark Race-R Pro. You can find my review on here - or at least links to them. There isn't any point in saying any more. I said it all on my blog.

But if you have some prejudice against them, fine. I'm not on commission.

  17. Nothing against shark helmets.... I did see your link but not read it yet.... I did click on the, ink and the first pic I saw I got the impression of good build quality.... Off to read...

  18. I wish you could test ride helmets.

  19. X lite did a scheme years ago where u could but it was with the weirdly shaped one with a stupid visor mechanism and they were just too weird

  20. I got the SHOEI NXR - MYSTIFY. Nice and light but I find the wind noise high. But maybe that's all helmets, I don't get through many. Chin strap seems to rub after a while too.
