I've just araldited a 1/2 inch thick nylon disc to the underside of my stand, i'll let you know if it stands (no pun intended!) up to the wear and tear involved.
I would think the best way of doing this is to cut some alloy plate and either have it welded on to the foot of the stand or screw it on using countersunk screws with the holes tapped into the stand , something like M4 would suffice . I may well do it to my spare side stand in the future .
