I hired the V6 which wasn't bad on fuel at all. I can see you sort of need the V8 (for the rumbling on tick-over) but you might not like the fuel bills. What I struggle with is the fact that the moment it comes over this side of the pond, it balloons in price - about double the $ value. Does this mean that Ford don't actually want to sell any cars? It may "only" be a Ford, but it's so much more interesting than their normal bland, everyday product. Haven't yet seen the new one in the flesh, but I'm frightened it will be more... er... bland than the brutal styling of the current one. But to make them really interesting, they need to do a "Mini" with a zillion aftermarket pointless accessories and pimp possibilities.
Big difference between the classic 60s mustang and the crap they put the badge on in mid 00s. Now the Shelby one on the otherhand
I get the feeling our American cousins only really care about two Austins. The Million Dollar Man and Stone Cold
The v8 isn't much worse on fuel than the V6, sadly compared to European engineering it only makes the power of a v6 as well. You need to see inside the engines, the quality of casting was beyond appalling.
