Silverstone MotoGP (Spoiler)

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Imola, Jun 12, 2012.

1. Optimism of the highest order there:upyeah:

If two former world champions can't do anything with the bike, what makes you think a relative rookie is suddenly gonna make it fly? Look at the high calibre of riders who have ridden the bike, and look what it's done to their careers.

2. Without trying to be pedantic it's my understanding he's from Coventry?

I think this last weekend has raised his profile more than even if he'd got a podium (apart perhaps from a win). Really hope he keeps fit and get a good ride for next year that not only is with a great team, but one where he can get the results too.

By the way, what is happening to Spies?

3. Oh what's 112 miles between friends.......:upyeah:

Dunno what's with Spies, but he's getting closer to the door.

4. I don't think Cal will necessarily make the Ducati win either, but he has to be wanting to be given the chance to further develop or reap the rewards of what those two 'former world champs' have developed the bike. Cal has nothing to lose in going to Ducati unless you are saying he has a chance to win on the Tech3?

5. He stands a far better chance of winning on the Tech3 than he does on the Ducati. Unless something amazing happens to the ducati before the end of the season, there's no good reason to join the ducati team other than money. I wouldn't blame him for chasing the bucks at all, who doesn't want a healthy bank balance? But if the choice came down to cash or championship points I'd rather hope he chose the points.

6. Seeing as he was lapping Silverstone in the same time as the leaders with a broken ankle, you'd have to think that there is no reason why with a Tech 3 bike he can't get on the podium or even win if circs go his way for once.

I doubt he'd have been lapping in the same times as the leaders on the Ducati, unfortunately. None of the Ducati riders were much (although Hayden - massive improvement.)

7. Yamaha wont allow a satellite bike to consistently beat the Factory bike as neither will Honda allow their satellite bikes to do it. It's the dilemma facing Rossi in that if he signs to ride a Tech 3 or Gresini bike next year, then he will still be restricted in what he can do on it and why if he can get the Ducati to work in the dry, it's the best option for him.

8. Money is important and will always be a factor in any professional career choice. Winning is too. But you miss the point I made about doing it for the career and the CV. All the guys on the grid have spent at least half their lives fighting to get a go in the premier class and dreamt of winning it for one of the big teams.

Although the GP12 is not as competitive than the RC213/M1, Cal knows the GP13 will be even better as will the GP14 moreso. If Cal is going to switch, he probably wants to switch to a factory team that is on the rise with the best yet to come over the next 2 years: a minimum time frame he would want to be riding for a factory team. Who will win in their first year with a new team? Cal has to be thinking of 2014...

9. it is his leaving , but i believe his ambition to win is bigger than just riding around 7th to 10 tenth on big bucks on that shed of a ducati , Foggy once said he saw in the faces of the fans the massive disappointment when he fell off on his wildcard gp ride in the British gp ,Cal would have seen this sunday, how big he would be, if he can win some races, his best chance is to beat Dov this season and hope for works Yamaha , with Stoner not bothering to push hard and having chatter problems Honda are in trouble for next season Pedrosa aint going to get faster. give Cal Spies seat but he got to keep riding hard !!

10. The GP13 and GP14 will be, beyond doubt better than the current machine, but I don't think Yamaha or Honda are just gonna sit back and wait till the Ducati beats them to develop their machines further still.........

Next years Tech3 bike will be at least this years works machine, and I'm sure the Honda at Gresini will be the same

11. calcrutchlow Im taking part in a live webchat for @bennetts_bike on their Facebook page tonight: on.fb.me/Lbb4Fu -what do you want to ask me?#AskCalabout 1 hour ago · reply · retweet · favorite

There you go, you could always ask him. Unless I've missed something, it was just an off the cuff remark, which showed his level of confidence, not an actual statement of intent. Possibly just a kick up the bum for Yam to make him a proper offer.

12. Apologies for that!! Difficult day, tired and emotional  North of Watford anyway....

I also hope he gets a good ride next year, I'd like to think he'd be the difference at Ducati should he get the ride, and wish him every success in advance should that happen. Failing that, Number one rider at Tech3 with Full Factory Support from Yamaha. In reality I don't think he'll get a Factory ride with anyone else just yet. (Ducati aside)

I have no idea what is happening to Mr Pies...
