Silverstone......."The weather was beyond our control, pay up Mr. Lloyd" Lloyds......"The fact you got pikeys in to tarmac your circuit was your fault, no chance"
But there will also be a battle if you paid by credit card - claim back as cancelled and your card company may well refund
There’s an interview on the MotoGP site with the Silverstone boss that suggests he was expecting a final track inspection at 4pm, but that track inspection did not take place as the riders/teams decided to pull the plug before it had taken place. That sort of ties up with what was happening at the time, as the marshals and sweepers were still out working on the track as the message came up on the screens it was cancelled. Also said would be in touch with anyone who had bought a ticket through Silverstone next week to say what they were going to do.
Off shift, so just spent 2 hours skimming through the recordings. By 4pm, it had not rained for near an hour, and I agree with Redding, too much power given to the riders. You're blokes, there's no standing water, get out there and race. Where do we draw the line now? The circuits too hot, the tracks greasy, let's not race. It rained Friday, still a bit damp, lets not race. It's quite cold, I've no heated grips, let's not race?? I fully got it when it was like a lake but by later in the afternoon, it was just a wet track. My support goes with Redding, Zarco and Miller. Really feel for the poor fuckers that went all weekend for that. A bit pathetic imo.
I have never liked Silverstone ,last time went to watch GP there was 1986 and it rained all weekend and all the races went ahead then ,don;t blame the riders at all ,Silverstone needs to give us a refund.On a brighter note off to portsmouth to catch ferry to Spain where i hope it will be warmer .Best part of the day was riding with some dude on a Hyperstrada from M40 to Winchester ,was that anyone on here ?
A damage limitation piss poor statement when they could and should have ran at 9am to keep the fans and the championship alive..............no excuses
Where do the comments about the rain being off by 4pm originate? It was still raining reasonably around 4.30pm when we were walking back to the car.
Will people stop having a go at Silverstone, remeber they are only running the GB round whilst the Dorna appointed Circuit Of Wales is completed, you know the circuit that was awarded the licence for 5 years even though it was still a field in a valley somewhere in Wales.
We were at a bar at 1600 when they made the announcement and it was still definitely raining. An hour after that though and things were different. They probably could have raced at 1800 but you have to say no at some point as you can’t keep crowds around all day. I really do think they should have organised some cars or something, just to give the fans something other than sitting in the pissing rain.
Herve says himself in that interview that at the time there was no standing water on the track, not that it wasn't raining. That interview was just after the announcement Not sure where that bit about it had stopped raining comes from, but I thought the only reason the delays and rescheduling were in place was due to standing water and danger of aqua planing Rain and a wet track doesn't usually stop a motorbike race, so if there was no standing water why not run a wet race at the earliest opportunity
the throttle works both ways....you ride to the limitation of grip... these are the best riders in the world with out of this world feel, the standing water was cleared ride to the conditions may the best at it win.. squeeze Honda and the championship leader make them make a mistake.....
Each to their own opinion but having been there it did not look safe to me. There was standing water all round the track across the whole width. Never quite understood why no one has invented a Tarmac surface and base that doesn't drain immediately. Surely it cannot be that difficult to do.
We got given Fri/sat/sun BSB tickets as a gesture from Silverstone bods - everyone in the champions hospitality got at least 2each
