Adding, sounded like a flounce, it wasn't. More that if the site is happy for people to have a poor experience unless they pay, then it says volumes about what it thinks of the contributors. New users will simply stopping coming before they establish a personal interest in people/chat. All it needs is the old-style ads: static not dynamic.
No one is ignoring your gripe with the inconveniences that you are having using the site on your tablet or phone, I also find other sites a pain to use because of excess amount of advertising too and it pisses me off also. I think we live in a different world now when sites where free of advertising, and site builders now rely on revenues which incite them to accept monies for this. Choosing other sites that do not have massive adverts is always going to be a choice I agree but soon they become commercially viable for companies to accept adverts. It's a no win situation I think and yes we give plenty for free but our rewards for this is frutile and I will keep posting because freedom of speech is worth far more than revenue gained in the long run.
So how do we deal with this conundrum? Give people a great ad free experience for 2 weeks then slam them with ads and ask them for subscriptions at that point? I think that’d piss people off even more. I think you’ll find most, if not all, forums operate in the way that we do. And most charge more per annum too. Personally I think £5 for 12 months ad free is exceptional value. At 1.37p a day Paul obviously doesn’t.
I don’t think anyone is saying it’s not value etc. But it has 100% got worse for spam and AD’s which has definitely reduced how often I come on here. I’ve been on various forums and haven’t seen this amount of ads in the past, not to the extent of these which render it very difficult to navigate or read anything. Seems to be a bit of a lynching when anyone even considers mentioning it as well which is a bit ... shit
So how do we deal with this? How do we pacify the vocal minority (and it is a minority) that don’t want to contribute to something that they have (up to now obviously) gained knowledge and pleasure from? I repeat.......do you pay for your sky/cable tv? Do you pay for your TV license? (Or any other form of entertainment you may be involved in Etc etc etc.) When you go to the pub for a laugh with your friends surely you have to buy at least one drink to stay there? There’s an old saying which I’m sure you have heard before “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. Unless you can prove different.
I also got peed off with ads a long time ago. Had to decide whether to pay the lady godiva or do a runner. Hey i'm still here. But really saving hard for next subs when due.
I got a blow job for free once. It wasn't till I looked down to see it was Kevin, who in the dark thought I was Michael and we both realised it was an o oh moment. The cats face was priceless though
