Skully Helmet

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Lucazade, Oct 16, 2013.

  1. Hud yes probably, built in visor no, bluetooth headphones no as they start from 15gbp cheap ones. There are lids with builtin sun visors and bluetooth intercoms for about 300.

  2. An interesting idea and promo, not the worse looking helmet ever and the tech all in one place rather than having to carry all the individual items would certainly appeal on long distances. The rear cam made me feel a bit sick watching it, but would be useful to see who was barrelling up behind you on motorways cos sometimes you do need eyes in the back of your head.

  3. Ever heard of mirrors? Or looking round?

  4. Yes we all know 996 or 749 mirros are so good..... I have rear view camera on monster and it offers much better view back then any mirror I had. It also covers blind spot as if I see just the end of car I know front is in my blind spot.

With that lid you see entire blind spot so motorbike will not hide there as well.

  5. In Reply, Pete Yes I am aware of looking around ...... I tend to do it alot cos the mirror's on my ducati are shit.

  6. Lucaz, very good point about rear view and something I'm thinking about. What rear cam / screen are using and how easy to swap between bikes?

  7. Well I got my bits off ebay so cannot remember exactly specs (camera specs are the most important as to good spec is bad as it gets blinded at night and to bad just does not work). There is a thread about it somewhere.

How easy it is to change between bikes..... lets just say for first few miles stay away from cars and if possible busy roads.

IF you go from mirrors to camera you look at mirrors first to realise oh crap they are not there so then you look at camera screen (centre console for me).

IF you go the other way around you look at centre to realise crap mirrors you look in to them and see F-all so you hesitate till you mentally switch.

  8. Bit of a bump for this one, given as you can pre-order it today.
Yours for the "princely" sum of £950 (plus probably duty and the like on top when it lands) SKULLY

Don't get me wrong, a lot of tech in that helmet compared to others, but for something unknown with what amounts to a relatively cheap kit of parts inside it - given how little you can buy things like a HD wide angle camera, bluetooth, Android based mini devices etc that seems a little on the steep side.

I would really start to question is the helmet up to quality of a top end Arai/Shoei/Schuberth at this price level.
I certainly will not be buying one at that cost, even as a self confessed gadget freak.

  9. Cheapest skully 1299usd

  10. A much better solution is a tv screen integrated into each of the mirrors replacing the 'mirror' and a rear view camera. That way the mirrors remain as they are and I dont have to do the funky chicken. That cant be hard to do can it?

If I was commercially minded i'd make a set and patent the idea. But I am not. Neither do i care to be.

Small hi res screens are fairly inexpensive and would integrate into a mirror readily. Then a small rear view camera at the rear can broadcast onto the tv's in the mirrors. Simple.

Will I see a forum member on dragons den? If so I want a 916 set for free as commission. The rest is all yours.

  12. there was a full face with a sort of mirror effect rear veiw setup in its design, cant remember its name but it obviously caught on like lead balloons as ive never seen it mentioned since..

if you are going quick enough its not whats behind that matters its whats in front and beside you thats important ;)

  13. I have a 170 degree camera mounted at the rear light of my monster 900 and screen just below the dash. I could see cars behind and on my side.

Rule was simple. If entire car is there I will not hit it. If tiny part of front was missing close call, if more then 1/3 of bonnet gone I will hit it. Quick glance and you know.

On this helmet camera is 180 degree view angle so it will show even more.

The helmet you refer to was called revuu helmet. It did not catch on due to 2 fundamental flaws.
1 was weight at top of head as that is where mirrors were passing through.
2 Anywhere except on flat surface view was obstructed as mirrors were mounted solid with no auto adjustment or correction for angles.
Camera in that helmet adjusts with your angle so movement of head down, up, change of road incline or decline will be corrected to certain extend. It is not on gyros but with 180 degree view there is normally no need to film the end of your seat and beginning of passenger one.

Plus it has Bluetooth voice control, stereo speakers, GPS maps and so on.

Frankly I want to feel like Iron Man!!!! I am even going to call mine Jarvis rather then Skully.

  14. got bluetooth in my helmet but never use it. i find the music from the engine drowns the sound out anyway.
tbh, don't know if i could handle concentrating on the road and looking at a screen at the same time.

  15. Is it me or does anyone else feel that Skullys communications seem like a boiler room scam?
Just invest another $1000 dollars and join the gavy train.... I hope I'm wrong.

  16. All these crowd funding things are scams

  17. Not all got plenty of stuff from there but I was about to buy helmet and what stopped me is A they at start did not want to share weight (1700g) and battery/electronics are not removable....
