It was a pleasant novelty to be able to swap the bikes suspension around on a long trip depending on the changing terrain during a day. And I enjoyed it, a lot. However having now done a few thousand on a properly set up PP the ride feels significantly better, much more planted, far less dive, just better, only thing lost is the slower speed “plushness”. Hence, “ I enjoyed mine- a lot - but I wouldn’t want it again”.
They do, massively. I had urban set to softest and could get tip toes both feet, one foot flat. In sport I was one footed tip toes just about. If I rode fast with the softest setting the bike would bottom out everywhere Note rear only.
It allows you major convenience at no cost when on the move. If it’s round town, wet, cold you want more compliance. When it gets faster you want it all stiffer. And the electronics allow is to be sports bike stuff but not so you’re out the seat all the time on bumpy roads.
I suspect that is more to do with your PP having Ohlins. The latest generation (Sachs ?) Skyhook is very good but still not quite as good, IMO of course, as the 1200S Ohlins electronic suspension with the Ohlins SCU. Andy
I have to say I fiddled with my settings for so long, and lost track of preloads, firmer , softer etc and could not get the bike to handle like I wanted. Rang a few so called suspension specialists who said sorry mate not much can be done at all . Upon the advice from DF went to see Rob? At Pro Twins who had absolutely no problem in getting it where I wanted and he thought was sensible. The following week I was on brand’s hatch and if I hadn’t have made the changes I reckon I would have come off. There are many settings to adjust, the sag can be changed, preload, ride hight, pitch etc. It really made a huge difference to me. On the other hand I have ridden Ohlins shod Mutley and I absolutely loved it too. Very different, I found far more comfortable??.
Andy... You took the words right out of my mouth. As good as my 17 DVt is, compared to the '11 plate S I had with the Ohlins Mechatronic unit, It is, in my opinion, not as good as the '11 plate. I spent months going through every single combination, in each mode on the '11 plate, recording how each change felt. I've still got the diary with all the settings. I then used the Mechatronic unit when one became available. It made a big difference when fully loaded and subsequently without. Only reason I removed was to sell the bike on. Nonetheless, the Ohlins shod bike is still my favourite handling of the two. I just ride the DVT in a different manner.
