@bootsam - are you talking about the two rectangular shaped ones at the top that the hooked tangs slide into when you push the fairing slightly backwards into place?? They bugged the life out of me, they are slightly distorted to start with and are easily pushed completely through the slots that they are supposed to be retained in. What I’ve done with mine is get them into position as best you can , then fill the slot with some plastic card or something to make it fill out and sit in the correct position, then I’ve used a seal pick to bend the flange of the rubber grommet over and using a cotton bud with a bit of superglue on it wipe the back of the rubber grommet flange and it’s mating face and when you let go of it with the seal pick it’ll stick in the position it should be in all along, you need to do this on top and bottom edges. I’ve also cut a chamfer lead in into the edges of the grommet with a scalpel that will guide the fairing tangs into the slot better and as you say grease the tangs, works great and the grommets stay put cos they are now glued in position, not the easiest thing to explain but I hope you get the gist of it
I got the gist Pouchy. Ive got a glue gun and will spot soft glue them in place. I dont want to superglue it as I hate that stuff. I invariably glue my fingers together.
I hate superglue as well, that’s why I use a cotton bud to pick a little bit of it up from an old cap or something, use the thin rubber gloves as well,….what could possibly go wrong !!
Regular Silicon is useful, I use it as a glue, black is great on black connectors and will come apart when required without drama.
Had a seasonal swap round in the workshop and got the winter bike out for a once over ready for next month.
Fitted new grips to Mrs Slingy’s 848 compliments of @Andy800 . Old grips were starting to wear and Ducati want to sell you a complete throttle assy for the 848. Turns out any 22mm Ducati Grips fit for a lot less than the £90 off Duc want !
Absolutely, I asked a couple of dealers and they insisted the grips from other models wouldn’t fit and I needed the correct part numbers which was whole shebang. I was pretty confident that any 22mm grip would fit so sorted some from Andy, and waddaya know …they fit as expected !
Because if the pedestrian is sensible he’ll be walking toward oncoming traffic and not as seems to be getting more common walk with their back to traffic. IMO it’s a bogus requirement, given the rear number plate is reflective, if you’re also relying on a little Red reflector to be seen before the much larger number plate good luck.
It’s a Honda 650 Dominator (well actually a Vigor but essentially the same bike). I love the Domi engine but wanted something that had a classic look so I built this. Sounds amazing!
Took the M1100S for an MOT. Passed as usual. Not even a “noisy exhaust” advisory! While waiting I noticed an 03 999S there with no fairings- it was there last time I went a few weeks back. I asked what was wrong with it and the mechanic said it cuts out randomly. As the garage is just my local one, they aren’t fully clued up with Ducatis however I suggested the fuel pump relay ( plus how to relocate it to the top of the battery box) and also suggested it may be the fuel pump wiring where it exits the pump. This is what happened with my 749. He was much appreciative of the tips.
After yesterday’s final trackday of the year treated the 750 to a new chain and sprocket set. Those little AFAM chain tools are excellent. Just waiting on the sprocket to turn up for the carbon Dymags and job done (then adjust chain and torque up etc).
I picked up the freshly painted mono for my 748, no pics yet and now just need to stick the mesh back on (and everything else) then we're good to go ! Any recommendations for the double sided sticky foam that holds them on?
