A little sticker add-on to the 900 Supersport, recently. I saw that done on a picture in a test article in a magazine published in early January 1990. I liked it as it looks very 80’s to me. And it looks really cool in person. Next time round, I’ll need Michelin tires, as Pirellis won’t do anymore…
Just picked this lot up from Derby Plating Services on my way to work this morning. 2 day turnaround and £120. These are the same people who do all the plating work for Rolls Royce so they’re not too bad! Nearly two bike’s worth of bolts in there.
Fitted a carbon fibre rear hugger to the track bike, it pushed the new brake line a bit close to where the wheel would be so ended up taking it all off, turning the line around and putting it all back together again. Time well spent though as could of been working instead I guess
Sorted out a few bits around the garage and racked them in a better way. Next job over winter will be to sort out parts, accessories and apparel that is surplus to requirement and put them up for sale.
End of the biking season approaching, so I thought I’d give the Ninja 1000SX workhorse a full service before I lay it up for the winter Got all my original replacement bits,… air filter £30 quid, set of iridium plugs £46 quid and I’ve already got the oil and filter, which I’ll do last I took all the fairings off yesterday so just had to lift the tank and remove the airbox… Airbox was a bloody pain to get off ( strangely enough, it was even worse to get back on! ) and I hope I can remember how this lot all goes back together, loads of overflow pipes and electrical sensors, fuel pump line to disconnect etc … View of the plug HT connectors here, the far lhs one for number 1 plug, was an utter pain to get at as it was tucked under the frame rail and the wiring loom ran across the top of it you know how tightly packaged these things are, jeez ! I could have done with hands like Jeremy Beadle to get in there !! After I’d unplugged the HT connectors, I remembered ( thank god ! ) a tip I saw on YouTube to make it a bit easier to remove the coil caps….. Firstly, don’t even try to pull them out, try to twist the coil cap in situ to break the sticktion with the cylinder head, once you can get them to twist through about 1/3 of a turn, you’re good to start the pulling process, ..this is the tip that saved my bacon today,….use an old boot lace wrapped a couple of times around the coil cap, then crossed over underneath the HT plug outlet and that gives you a real good purchase to heave the coil caps out,..looks like this before you start pulling… This one thing made the whole job so much easier,…. better view here… Bootlace wrapped around coil cap and crossed over at HT plug port, ….it has to be a brown stripey lace out of an old Hi-Tec walking boot or it won’t work mind !! Having got all the old plugs out and replaced with the new ones, all HT wires reconnected and everything else tidied up back to original positions, I changed the air filter before refitting the airbox back onto the injector bodies…. This is what 19,000 miles of road crud looks like !! Quite surprised it was that dirty tbh, as the bike has been serviced 3 times by the main dealer, it does say in the handbook service schedule though “ inspect or replace “ ..but I can tell from the service receipts that’s it’s never had an air filter change yet , but it doesn’t even seem to have been inspected or surely they would have changed this ?? Oil and filter change tomorrow and then about 3 days cleaning to be done as it was so dirty underneath the fairings and then I’ll give everything a good rustproofing treatment before I put it back together again. Lots of work, but I prefer to do stuff like this myself and then I know it’s done properly and my minds at rest that everything is clean/new and good to go About 5 hours work to get to this stage and I was gagging for a coffee after that !
Installed some home made bar extensons. I saved some Trick pegs off one of the younguns bikes (I knew they would come in useful). Machined down at work to 22 Dia, drilled the end to take original bungs and polished up. Plus, home made expansion rubbers out of fuel pipe. Taped nut up to stop rotating. Well happy. I needed something to attached phone / SatNav mounting bracket, one either side. Cheers Gaz
FINALLY got my arse into gear to move bikes around and tidy the garage. Main objective was to get at this poor sorry neglected beastie so I can do the belts etc over the winter...
Replaced an oil cooler union pipe after I noticed this when cleaning road crud off the front of the V-Raptor engine. Looks like not a moment too soon as well.... it doesn't bear thinking about if that had popped whilst biffing round that tasty third gear right hander...
Now I’m over my bout of the sh1ts I’ve got the Kawasaki back together again after last weekend’s big service Thought I’d have a little spin on it today seeing as the roads were nice and dry and no signs of salting them yet, wanted to check all was good with the bike and then brim it full of 5 star for the winter hibernation… Ended up in @El Toro can fill in the blank space Happy with my work on the “Cruise missile “ all good, running really slick. Not exactly warm, but nice and dry,..the frost warning went off on the way back…..3c ! Needed a coffee and cake to warm up… That is one sexy bit of carrot cake ! Home before 3:00 pm and didn’t even have to wash the bike…result !! Somehow think that might be the last ride of the year, I’ll leave the tax running just in case we get a few freaky warm days in December…dream on !
Spent the morning cleaning up the brake and clutch masters, callipers and rear sets too. Greased up where required and not looking bad for 22 year old parts.
