Wasn’t happy with the paint finish on the 749 engine, stripped back the paint on the crank case, will remove the alternator cover and have it cerakoted to match the magnesium clutch housing, This should give it a nice clean look when finished.
Took a gentle bimble down to the Goodwood race track for a sausage bap. Unfortunately the track was in the second day of a private hire and was absolutely heaving with people and cars. Managed to find a seat in the new cafe and watched a Spitfire take off on one of those expensive experience flights. Hearing the Merlin engine roar still brings a lump to my throat. There was also a North American T-6 Texan doing circuits. Lots of bikes out and about and some pretty awful displays of (no) driving skills from too many car drivers. Not been down the A272 to Petersfield for a long time, now totally ruined by the average speed cameras and car drivers doing 40mph. Still had a good run and the V4 Pikes Peak returned 45mpg. Had it been a day to hoon, that would have been very different Andy
Gave the bike a pre EMM going over this afternoon. Had bought new front pads as they looked thin but the new ones only had 2.8mm of material whereas the ones already on the bike were 2.1mm. Both sets are Brembo SA so like for like. They'll be staying on for the trip and the new ones going onto the shelf for later. New battery, original is now coming on for 6 years old so precautionary replacement. Replaced gear change rubber for one I bought last year but never got around to fitting, original had seen better days.
I know I bought it to restore, because, when I was my youngest sons age, I had an RD125LC, and my father had a 1980 CB250N Superdream in silver, this one is the same model year, colour, and registration letter as the one he had
Lever change time, back to standard. The clutch pull was very, very heavy and on trying to remove the pin from the Evotech lever it wouldn’t shift. Binding. Got it out and swapped over. Clutch action is vastly improved (as no doubt it would have been with the Evotech once freed of gunk and crap.
If people want them, I need two for my bikes and a set for spares, so I will most likely get a batch of 5 or 10 machined up. If the spares sell I will produce some more. I will be finalising this one and making another variant for S models. Just mounted p2, I need to fill the dead space by the frame and move the lower mounting point back as I missed the offset on the 848 rearsets.
I’m tired Ricky lol, sorry I read your post wrong, we have some trick stuff at work so I can have anything really, haven’t decided though (need to look at costs).
Refitted the carbon heel guards & exhaust guards after getting them refinished to remove several scuffs & scratches.
Got tyres going on Friday so chance to give the hidden bits a good clean up and lube pistons. First time wheels have been off this bike.
