Finished my phone mount today. I have been developing bits and pieces for it for a while now. @logiczero started the ball rolling by providing the initial 3d printed mounts. That persuaded me I needed a 3d printer in my life and have been developing bits ever since. The final piece (I thought) was a usb charger mount for the handle bars. A decent test run on Thursday showed it worked brilliantly but was affected by strong sunlight, so back to the (computer aided) design board and a shroud was printed off. A little bit of fettling later, I am very happy with the fit.
OMG!! That looks absolutely massive and for me anyway, would be a serious distraction whilst riding the bike. Each to their own of course, however, I won't be asking how you did it, etc.........
Looks neat and a good spot to mount it Looks a little cavernous when your phone isn’t in situ though. Is there anything you could use fill the void when not in use? This isn’t a criticism by the way just an observation. I’m sure there’s a market for your ingenuity
I will always have the phone there when riding so not an issue for me. The shroud isn’t permanently attached to the bike - my phone has a rubber type case so I made it a light interference fit. It sits out of your direct eye line and moves with the screen so is adjustable. It also has the benefit of moving the screen out which helps (a bit) with wind buffeting at speed. The mount is a universal phone one but could probably also take some sat navs but can’t imagine I would ever get another stand alone sat navs.
It’s just normal phone size, not in eye line at all so you have to purposefully look at it. No different to any bike sat nav. I wonder if it being above and in front of the dash is making it look bigger in the pics perhaps……
I worried about the size of my Carpuride when I ordered the 7" model, thinking that the 5" version might possibly be a better option. It does look quite large but in use not a problem and only there when you need to look at it, otherwise not a distraction.
It’s all about your eye line. I wouldn’t have put it on my KR1S where my head was on the tank at times, but on the multi it’s no issue. Yours looks an ideal size for a quick glance down to see what you need then carry on.
