Busy day on the new (to me) track bike. Have given it the once over before it’s first outing. Striped the front brakes, serviced the callipers and refit Removed all fairings checked all accessible nuts and bolts and rerouted various cables so it looked a bit tidier Fitted the Ctek battery tender cable Torqued all bolts and fixings around engine & forks Cleaned & Lubed chain & torqued swinging arm fixings Fitted a Renthal 462-520-41 rear sprocket Removed Sprint air filter, blew out and replaced Changed and bled brake and clutch fluid Checked base suspension settings to MCT spec sheet LEFT TO DO Oil and filter Front fork oil (maybe fit Ohlins cartridge kit) Drain fuel Change brake pads Fit new tyres Set up auto blipper (seems a bit sporadic on the down shift)
So how do you get on with the PS, I’m thinking of introducing a newbie to the fold and I’m torn between that and the Triumph Thruxton Practical advice welcome
It's radical with that reach to the bars, so no beer bellies need apply. For me it's not a problem just needs ragging everywhere you go.Perhaps try bothrides out first before spending the folding stuff............but both look damn good.
@Carr01 Anthony, Martin at Ducati Manchester had one for a few years but sold it a couple of months ago. He took it to Italy on a DMC trip 4 years ago and on the odd occasion he could ride it over 70mph it made sense. Under that speed he said (and I quote)……..”if I’d had a can of petrol available I’d have poured it on the fucking thing and set fire to it”
I tried out a Sport Classic demonstrator some years ago, have to say it was even more uncomfortable than a Laverda Montjuic..... Still have the limited edition promotional pencil and pencil set in nero though, BNIB, must be worth a fortune now!
Needs ragging everywhere you go? Reminds me a of an Audi S3 I used to own it was either on or off with no middle ground Fast as you like with the handling to match but tiring, didn’t keep it long. I loved the performance of the 1200s Multistrada and the engaging experience of the 900ss, both very different machines from different times Which it why again I find myself looking at the Triumph Thruxton. Modern machine with classic looks.
Maybe it's just the way i'm in life, but perhaps the more mature student would follow the highway code & be fine.
I took the highly controversial decision to tweak my butterfly idle "park" screw on the noisy Ugly (shock horror). This is not something I would normally do or recommend but A/ No factory sealing paint in sight so not an untampered with "virgin" B/ The fuelling/mapping is only erratic around 1 to 2k and i'm loathe to address with a remap because it goes extremely well from 2 onwards, better than any early Multi i've ever ridden. C/ It's the easiest solution right now as rather cold and not about to go resetting TPS and am already happy with air bleeds and balance, no idea or interest in how the stepper motor is behaving, last time I had a full-on stepper motor session I swear I had dreams about them. The result was worth it, as now idles once it's warmed up.
Discovered that if I wrap bike parts in aluminium foil, I can heat them in the oven to fit bearings without my wife smelling hot oil.
Fitted a go pro mount to the bike. F**k all else I can do after my painter broke his leg on another trackday which as a consequence has delayed my bodywork by another three months. He is at least OK and healing. Still I wouldn't be riding the bike this time of year anyway and it needs its first MOT, which will raise a few eyebrows at the test centre given it only has 12 miles on the clock.
Finally managed to get the v-due to start. Appears the starter system was shimmed strangely from new, its a bit difficult to know as manuals can only be delivered by unicorn. On the bright side it's instant cold start and idle which apparently its never done before. Sounds nice.
Received from Sportsbike Shop a pair of heated motorcycle gloves.A bit of a luxury but I did get a 20% discount on them and the batteries and charger that goes with them. Mrs Mervyn declares they are brilliant,so that is probably the last I will see of them.
Rode the Scrambler to Moto Corsa in Gillingham near Wincanton , to pick up the new Kawasaki , the new bike looks and sounds lush , I nearly bailed today , sleet , freezing , windy , low sun , debris all over the roads .
