smart phone

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by peter james, Sep 9, 2012.

  1. There is a setting to turn the phone into a router under WiFi settings so any one you give the password to can connect. U can still use the internet on the phone at the same time.

  2. Yeah thinking about it....my tablet is running a new version of android but the last Android phone I had was an early one....can't even remember the version number it was running....maybe it didn't have it then.

  3. I hope this helps as i was in the same position as you back in march this year and in the end chose Nokia Lumia 710 for ease of use & price at least half the price of an Iphone! I can do all that i want take photos load them onto Fb or whereve pick up emails & search the web oh and make phone calls:biggrin:.
The biggest suprise after non smart phone was battery life i used to charge my old phone 2 times a week but its now a daily requirement. I have to say they are a bit addictive as its so easy to check things out find out whats on etc. My kids have iphones and maybe try one when this contract runs out.
    Cheers

  4. I bought my iPhone 4 last October cost me £60 plus the lowest contract 34.99

The only downside is battery life as I'm on the damn thing every 5 seconds
    :-/

  5. 2y contract right so 900GBP. I bought my phone for 400 and am on £15 a month sim only contract. Can change when I want and sell phone at higher price as not branded, are iPhones branded or is that not the case?

If you do the math buying phone on free market and getting ism only contract is better deal most of the time.

  6. I always had iPhones but my latest is a Samsung galaxy S3. My wife got one first and after a quick play decided to bin my Apple devices for it. Faster, easier to use the net on it, far better memory which is expandable, and you can even chuck a new battery in it if needed. Unless Apple raise their game I'll be sticking with my S3!

  7. So iPhone 5, hope that was a joke presentation as it is step up from 4s but way behind anyone else.

It is only 7g lighter then bigger 4.3inch htc model. It is also thinner by less then 0.2mm then same phone out for months.

I like the light for front camera. It uses even smaller sim card then micro sim card, how small is that then?

  8. Ok, not getting drawn into this but I'll say my piece.
Facetime works on 4S via 3G.
The 5 isn't as amazing as many had hoped (still doesn't double as a hoverboard) but it's a bloody lovely device.

    ***Beware***
Those talking about using your phones as a wifi hotspot. This is called tethering and many (if not all) phone providers will charge you a fortune for any data you use in this manner.

  9. Never heard of that being charged in the UK. Maybe in these states

  10. I tried it out for about 5 minutes and Vodafone hammered me for it. I can't remember how much they charge but it was outrageous.

  11. Do u have unlimited data plan?

  12. Nothing to do with limits, I spent a good while on the phone to them arguing that data used on an iPad via the phone was no different to data used on the phone itself. I was paying for data, it's up to me what I do with it. Deaf ears.
The iPad has 3G FFS, it was purely as an experiment when they added the feature to IOS.

  13. Been theathering on windows mobile, and wp7 and android in total for 5y now. In that time I was with o2, tmobile and Vodafone never issue. Unless phone tells them how do they know you theathering?

  14. Been tethereing - via WiFi and USB cable - for about 1 year with Vodafone and never an issue, as long as I stay within my data plan. I've found it to be very useful when the internet goes down at work.

  15. Hmm, maybe they're behaving themselves now, this from their forum:
I think it was part of the whole iScam thing, whereby they charged more for data delivered to iPhones than any other devices.
Lucasz, they were using packet inspection. Yes, seriously.

  16. Honestly that far? Thing is they would then only have dynamic ip and many mac addresses not knowing which one was phone. As you can change mac on android and could on old windows mobile plus as all 3 phones mentioned had option for browsers to imitate full desktop one (in Windows Mobile i could have even told which browser to act as) it would be impossible to know which usage is theathering from those phones.

  17. I'm sure they don't bother with MAC addresses, they know the SIM & monitor its traffic. Simples.

  18. So what if you move the ism to usb modem?

  19. If they care they'll have automatic triggers in place based on the packet inspection.
