No foresight for stupidity - we're not going to have a forum header for them surely? If so lets have a poll - but first: suggestions... First 10 go in to the pool...
Ive not seen one in the flesh but that style of bike (along with a few others that I don't like) epitomizes what I hate in bikes, so I don't need to see one in real life or ride one. Style: that's what it lacks most in....personally I would call style something that's applicable to the manufacturer....ie ktm, orange, angular, Ducati, minimalistic, Kawasaki, again angular but in a different way to ktm...the scrambler as ive said before looks like an attempt to go back to the 70's with a twist of present day - and doesn't do it - atall and theyre trying to put a twist on something that should have been forgotten in the first place. Yep - ive got a set of one piece leathers but not because I want to be a GP racer but because its the most protective thing to wear (wear them on my hyper as well as RSV4) - if anything I try to be as "Not GP racer as possible"....my leathers are all black, lid is black apart from 2 stickers on it that are not biking related atall. I wouldn't buy a rep helmet...eg I wouldn't buy anything with 46 or Rossi on it etc etc cos....well, im me...why would I want to be him? Sounds like an argumentative stance but its not - the typed word just sounds like that...just don't like the scrambler - imagine if it took off we'd all be driving round on Honda cb250 dream racers with upside down forks!! I will make an admission that I did have a Guy Martin t-shirt which I bought at the first TT I went to a few years back, then I met him and its now a cleaning rag...
I went to a dealer today whilst on the road to see if they had one in to look at. Apparently showroom models won't be out till March. What good is that? Production and marketing need their heads banging together!
Jeez, I bet you lot were bevel owners in a previous life! "Those new fangled rubber band models will never take off". If it's got wheels then I'll give anything a crack, I might buy one of these instead of a Multi, and just enjoy the N roads across Europe on my next trip
prefer the Triumph version, but this has its place, and it is growing on me. would need a few changes, and I don't have £8k to splash, so is hypothetical really.
Being able to take any of these bikes off road must be a realistic option for me. And compared to the Triumph, the Ducati, at about 50kg less than the Triumph, is the only option. With semi knobblies on this Ducati might be viable. With, say the Urban Enduro, are we supposed to be paying 1100 quid more for a bash plate, light grill and cross bar?
guess it may be a case of waiting for the after-market bits to find their way onto the market. get a basic model and then add bash plates, hand guards, etc to suit use/taste.
Scrambler suggests off road capability, none of them look as if they could cope with much more than a gravel drive! I see the project as a nod to the original scrambler and a way back into the retro market now that the sports classics are out of production. If I had to choose, I quite like the look of the Full Throttle version. Would I buy one? Probably not. But never say never!
I dont see what all the fuss is about... This bike will make Ducati a lot of money i reckon. Maybe most of the buyers will be "plastic bikers" ompus: but the sales will soon tell. Id like one but couldnt buy one. My 1098s & 1200 Tenere do what i need them both for. This Scrambler would be more luxury bike. Onc in a blue moon ride out bike, when the weather is good. I think the scrambler would be more of a plod around the city type job too as opposed to hacking it to work or going scratching at the wkends or to the track for that matter. Although Im sure it could cope. But its prob meant for ppl to knock about at the weekends on a coutry lane, two up..Not the everyday biker as such. It looks good, im sure it will ride well too. I'll be interested to see how it sells. Over here it will be appx 10,200 euro ( always vote no to that euro currency, trust me! ). Will get a test ride on one in March, so will look forward to that. BUt that will be the only time i will ever ride one.
Looking forward to seeing it at the bike show, however I have my Sunday plodder and got a Thruxton on order now !
You should change the poll again to another option, maybe buy when seen, test ridden etc. I might buy one later on when the dust has settled and seen a decent review on it, and maybe test rode one. I know my Dealer has a few orders all ready, but then some people just order to have the first option, and then get deposit back no I not ordered one yet
The way I see the bike, especially the 'basic' version is as cheap Ducati branded transport. Its being placed right in the market up against the MT07, ER6N, SV650, SFV650. Its a funky commuter tool The more expensive options are up against the Bonny, the NineT and the Guzzis of this world. This bike is going to make Ducati very happy in deed
