959 So My Track Bike Is Just About Finished!

  3. I looked at carbon as the ultimate but I’m a little terrified of the cost of trashing them. The wheels were the one area I broke my half price or less rule and thanks to the great deal it wasn’t by a massive amount.

    The carbon wheels, like the akrapovic exhaust would have pushed the budget too far - as an exercise though I would love to run the numbers on a money no object build into the spreadsheet and see just how light a 959 could get! :cool:

  4. Yes that’s the one, absolutely awesome bike. I’m still slow and getting to grips with going faster on track but the bike is phenomenal so confidence i spring (which is my biggest problem with bikes) brilliant, brilliant bike. Has brembo z04 pads in it, my word they are something else!

  5. It's addictive trying to make it light.
    My 899 is 185kg fully fuelled and in standard road trim! Lights, horn, etc etc. Aiming for around 178kg. Just waiting for my credit cards to cool down firsto_O

  7. Very tasty - i still wonder if I did the right thing in not going ex trioptions - there’s an awful lot of trick parts on that bike! I see you have the brembo HPK discs as well. Must be hard to hang on to when you hit the brakes!

    Same shock too - what spring rate are you running? You have the progressive linkage so it’s not a direct comparison though.

    If you can pick up the linkage from an 1199/1299 and set it to flat mode then your rear will be more linear and easier to setup.

    I get you with the confidence - I reckon the bike was just laughing at me - no matter how much a fucked up it just handled it - they are so much more capable than we realise.

    If I add the weights of your wheels, a full akra system, carbon tank and fairings, carbon subframe, titanium fixings everywhere they can be, what else?

    Mag engine covers and sump. ABS delete?

    I wonder how light we could get?

  10. It’s for the track, so a bit of tape over the boot so it’s not worn is almost expected :joy::upyeah:
     
  11. That’s a good tip on the linkage, thanks. I’ve not yet touched anything on the suspension side, it’s got the DDS pro rear shock, and the DDS fork cartridges but I’ve not touched any settings. It felt good enough for me to aim to get a bit more consistent (I’ve not even started using distance markers yet) and then I’ll play woth the settings to work out what’s right . It came with loads of spare springs for the shock and forks as well.
    Yeh they are HPK disks and brembo z04 pads, the stopping power is phenomenal! Seriously wasn’t expecting it nearly went over the bars in the first corner! are you taking yours on the Ducati day at donnington? I’ll see you there if so and you can see first hand what I mean about me being slow :bucktooth::joy:

    Got another day at Donington already booked for the 16th July so hopefully will have had time to iron out the kinks by the Ducati day!

  14. Brill! Come over and say hello, but stay 2 meters away :joy::joy:

    they can be unbeatable value, came with so much stuff on top of what’s on the bike and full JHP built blueprinted motor etc. Spare lightech rearsets, wets on wheels woth hpks, full set of crc race bodywork all in fresh paint, 3 sets of front and rear springs etc etc.

    but there is also something about doing it yourself I’m a big fan of that too.

    No spreadsheet.
    But magnesium deep sump, c/head covers & 2 part 1199 mag r/h/s engine cover waiting to go on. That probably saves another 460gms for those 5 parts over o/e items.
    Still toying with carbon tank & subframe :scream:

  16. Two suggestions . Gaffa tape, sticks to anything and will repair anything (plenty of experience of that one!) lol
    Or sugru, the rubber stuff. Works great and is mouldable. Couple stick some on the swingarm whee it rubs too
     
  17. The 1199 tank is a great weight reduction and the dbholders rear subframe on mine is only 1kg.
