well mot didn't go so good. Failed on rear brake pads and a fork seal. When I went over it yesterday ( now bare in mind I'm no mechanic!) I gave her a good clean, checked all lights were working, looked at how much meat were on the brake pads and the brakes although a lil spongey did work well before parking up in October. I couldn't get in to see the inside rear pad but assumed it had as much meat as the outside one ( shoulda used a mirror) and the rear brake has always been next to unless but never made a noise ( it did a lil on my ride this morn but I thought that might have been down to it sitting and the disc being a lil rusty. had it on the rear paddock stand and the wheel spun freely, no noise or side ways play, checked chain and sprockets. Pumped the front and no clunking noises as I've experienced on other bikes that would indicate dodgy bearings, tire treads ok. I did notice a lil fork oil but didn't think to much of it and didn't think it a fail, in fact the guy says if I give it a wipe before the retest he'll pass it. bit gutted to basically fail on a rear brake that is largely useless. i could probably do with some advice on checking a bike over pre mot! gunna post in the technical help section, but yea... That's my day.. Gutted..
I was also gunna add it was nice to finally be back on a bike but it just wasn't. my foot hurts like hell and although the clutch felt ok in the workshop, I can't find neutral at stand still and the gear lever takes alot more movement than I remember or my dodgy ankle is comfortable with. Dismounting is shit with the sprung side stand as I'm short and alot of weight is goin on a foot im still having probs walking on. but I could Live with most of this. I felt a lil uneasy when setting out mainly due to the frailty of me foot and possibly the memory of my last ride. got 100 mtrs from my house, went round the round about and on my exit, there was a car parked on double yellows right on the corner so I had to go round him. As I was doing so he flung open his door and jumped out. I missed him and his door by millimeters' by swerving into the other lane and missed an oncoming car by a foot or 2. maybe I'm just not ready or maybe there is just to many fucken morons on the Rd.
Feel for you Chiz but there's nothing major there. There's a lot of info about sealing leaky fork seals on here and as for pads, give the caliper a good clean, new pads and fresh brake fluid. I use Motul 606 as it has a higher operating temperature tolerance and seems to last longer in the rear brake reservoir. Good luck mate. Andy
Pull down the outer fork seal and jam a bit of tissue between that and the inner seal. Got me through an MOT and I sorted it properly afterwards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
he'll pass the seal if I wipe the fork leg before he wheels it in the shop. But I need a fix.. Badly... I'm clucking
Thinking of buying enduro / supermoto. I miss my 2 stroke MX bike but I never really used it that much. Might have to cave and buy a 4 stroke, my head is saying no, my heart is saying yes... high maintenance, big depreciation, only suitable for short trips, but off road fun and winter riding. I'm not fussed about buying another in line 4 unless I really like doing track days, but at the moment I just want the experience. This money left from racing will end up in the never ending long term project/investment fund if it's not used soon, the mrs borrowed a 1/4 of it last week.
Him, serving traffic officer, rides a Kawasaki something GT (12 or 1400cc ?) and no I couldn't lose him although his comment was "a good solid ride" and he had a smile on his face when he said it. Took me down some right knarly national speed limit lanes which were great fun. Andy

i had a Bristol police inspector type in black leathers and on some large Honda type machine chasing me around the roads south of Bristol on my test. we had quite a laugh going down some of the smaller lanes near Clutton. I nearly missed a 90 degree right hand bend, there was so much going on, which wasn't very good of me. He commented on my quality braking for that turning. Coincidentally, when i did my observer test, the irish chippie from DIY SOS - just on BBC - did his observer test at the same time on a GS. Was a nice chap, complaining about being 'recognised' even when wrapped up on a skiiing holiday. Personally, i think he loved the attention!
