So what have you done today..?

  1. I went out for the first dry (drier) ride of 2013. Salt and shit on the road was the order of the day. The roads that were clear made for some fun, but didn't want to push too hard too soon given it's quite a shock after 4 months to jump back on a superbike. Happily the leathers still fit me, even after the excess of Christmas!

Came home and watched the MotoGP review of 2007, I had forgotten just how much quicker the Duke and Stoner were! Happy days. Anyone who wants that DVD please give me a shout as it's for sale or might just put it on fleabay.

  2. You have my sympathy. When my father died and my mother developed dementia I had no help from my sister sorting things out.Fortuanately time is a great healer and we do get on a lot better now.

  3. Made dinner.Poached chicken in a wine, cream and mustard sauce with broccoli and sauteed potatoes.Don't think I poisoned my wife-do think I've gained a few browny points though!

  4. Made home made burgers (awesome) and started the stripdown of the right hand front caliper for the CBR. Just fed and polished the leather on my Alfa Romeo office chair.... need to polish the truck piston that I built into my desk next..

I love making furniture, I'd love to set up a small workshop making and selling automotive themed furniture.

  5. Ooh! Sounds nice! Sauerkraut is simmering on the stove at the moment. Looking forward to it with its attendant lumps of ham, frankfurters, bacon etc.

Today I stacked 3 m3 of wood in the woodshed, went to the gym. I saw 2 deer scratching around in the snow for food in the field below the garden. One of the two lesser-spotted woodpeckers came (not really an event, this - they are almost daily visitors) to peck at the grease balls. I created a sunflower seed rich mixture of seeds for the bird feeders. It is clear that sunflower seeds are definitely the birds' favourite snack, so I up the quantity of them in the bird food. Got to help the little blighters out in this weather or there will be reduced singing come spring.

  6. Anyone like to cook for me :)

  7. Have a gander at the furniture section of my blog. No automotive themes, but self-made furniture nonetheless!

  11. Thanks. That's the situation I have right now. Dad has mesothelioma and mum has dementia. This year isn't gonna be good.

  12. I have two brothers and a sister. I'm lucky. I like all of them immensely. Can't imagine any future will problems (we're just not that materially minded, or maybe stupid. Or there won't be enough for it to be worth arguing about.)

  13. i popped out to see the man from Conquest Carbon :upyeah:

Picked up something that had been ordered for me

  14. I have two brothers and a sister too. I'm good friends with my brothers and they are with each other and me.

She is poison. Thinks she's better than everyone else and doesn't get on with anyone.

  15. Some beautiful work there. I've only made three pieces so far, my Alfa Romeo office chair, 'the desk' featuring a Daf truck piston, and my speaker stands.. its just so much more satisfying than buying furniture.

  16. A mate of mine asked his mum how come his sister had four brothers but he only had three

Thats not a joke that's true.......education wasn't his specialist subject.

  17. I am liking the Alfa chair very much. How did you make it? (At least if you ask me how I made any of my stuff I'm already covered...)

  18. Funny you should say that. I was in town today with the Saturday shoppers and I realised that I didn't want to buy anything (was in to get a book for work). I'm totally over buying stuff, I'm completely into making stuff. The only stuff I want to buy is to enable me to make things out of it.

This is very fortunate as I have no money.

Once you start making your own furniture, just buying someone else's seems really unsatisfying.

  19. very straightforward, I took a standard staples office chair, canibalised the base of the chair and used the strut and 'spider'

The leather and foam was stripped off the base (6mm thick slightly curved ply) which was flipped over (it would have been too high otherwise) and cut to the same size as the footprint of the runners. The runners were then stripped of unnecessary brackets and fixtures, and the base and the (now flat) runners drilled so they bolted up. In the spirit of recycling, the leather stripped from the base was cut and used to cover the ply, and the black fabric from under the chair was then put onto the bottom of the base and secured with brass furniture screws and spray glue. the strut then bolted back up to the standard inserts, and the job was done. Took about three hours and cost £35 plus the original office chair.
