  1. In a quandry. I bought a cheap but last owner 10 years ford focus mk1 . It had a slight weep from the rocker cover, checked the usual candidate and yep the pcv hose had collapsed and the pcv valve had failed so got those two and a new rocker cover gasket.

The total job isn't difficult or lengthy but for other reasons, asked daughter if any mechanics from her old kia garage did private work, one did, asked a fair price and did it Saturday. Sunday go to daughters and smoke is coming from the engine bay, pull over and it's fresh oil weeping from the gasket, I suspect he's over tightened/incorrectly installed and crushed the gasket, anyway he's coming round this evening.

Hoping to save him time, I started to clean up the oil mess and find all bolts over tightened on one of the bolts, it's been very much over tightened and a crack on the plastic rocker cover which is on both sides of the bolt and about 3-4 inches in length. I noticed also the spring clip on the back of the pcv hose is now missing, two bolts of 4 are missing on the heat shield in front of the manifold and two of the black plastic clips that secure hoses to the front bulkhead are missing too so they are flopping instead of secure.

he does a fantastic job on their second hand c'eed and they get on really well with him but it's clear on the focus he may have fucked up, so I'll have a chat with him later and see what can be done but it's awkward as he thought he was doing a favour (for which he was paid) but he is also daughters and son in laws buddy who still services their cars and with no issues

  3. Chasing up electricans & gas safety trades for the final countdown, but getting nowhere fast, other trades people get my goat:mad::mad::mad:

  4. Catching night ferry from Portsmouth straight from work tonight. 10 miles to work so far. Speedo didn’t work for 5 minutes, warning light popped on for a short while. 6 mile tail back up the A38. Then I left the parking lights on. Knackered already

  5. Came out of work in the early hours to find the headlight not working on the Vespa either dipped or full beam :(

Ok, 8 miles home and I can stay on well lit 30mph roads, I have a side light, tail light, brake light and indicators all working. I’ll take a look in the morning, got to be a fuse.

Pulled it apart this morning to be confronted with this o_O The fuse hadn’t blown but one of the terminals has burnt clean through. Looking at the fuses, most of the tangs seem oxidised so I’m assuming the fuse hasn’t blown as the circuit is ok, just a poor connection on this tang had been overheating. Managed to fish the tang from the fuse box and clean it up. Cleaned up all the fuses and coated with electrical grease.

Bike started and headlight is working although the fan started up for a few secs and cut out, hoping it’s just as I’ve disturbed a few things

  6. Well this morning SWMBO took me to collect my bike from Wythenshawe (fresh back from Italy). Anyway as we went over Holme Moss we came across a number of police cars and ambulances parked at the side of the road..............unfortunately it looked like, because of the atrocious weather, that white van man had careered off the side of the road and down into a steep "ravine" Hopefully he wasn't too badly hurt.

Got to Wythenshawe and all the bikes (and luggage) were ready and waiting to be collected . Swmbo took my luggage back in the car, I reattached the Diavel's mirrors and set off for home trepadatiously as I didn't know how my shoulder would feel whilst riding home. Anyway in the main it was fine and only hurt when my jacket happened to rub the area getting off/on the bike when I filled up with petrol. :upyeah:

SWMBO decided to go shopping in Cheadle on the way back so I just headed home. Once home I hosed down the bike to get all the crud off, dried it and put it away. When SWMBO came home the washing machine was straight on.

Although my shoulder wasnt too bad I have decided not to go on a planned trip to do the NC500 in a couple of weeks and I've also had to postpone a Ron Haslam day that I was due to do next week until I feel I am fit enough to do it justice (I had to provide a copy of my medical papers too).

In and amongst being on here I am now catching up on some work. At this rate I wont get finished till 10pm.
