Aye, although my personality and work ethic is hard to break, even though I know I shouldn’t do so much! Have just employed another Project Engineer though so hopefully he will take some pressure off and I can wind back a bit. Sad thing is I actually really like my job so I do enjoy it, but working 70+ hour weeks can only last so long until I break so just need to manage the balance!
Wow that’s not cheap from them! Enjoy it though, I had a wobble round on mine yesterday evening and fell a bit more in love with it, worth every penny.
Agreed. I did 70-80 hours a week for 15 years in my last job. It brought round early retirement well before I thought I would actually do it.
What bike you on, will keep an eye out for you! Yeah it’s tough, I’m only 31 though so a long way to go but I am putting a fair chunk in my pension now so it’s got maximum time to grow, no point piling in when I’m 55! Doubt I’d ever fully retire as I’m No good at sitting around for long periods, but be nice to pick and choose something, probably buy a recovery truck and just choose when to do something!
Today i do be mostly MOTing the old 900ss, passed with no advisories and then enjoyed a nice bimble back home the longest route shortest i mean .................. a delightful ride the 900 far better than the 916 imo.
Fitted a 14 t sprocket on the monster and put 200g of lead in the right hand side of the handle bar. Cast a 150mm long 14mm diameter bar of lead and have shoved it in the end of the handle bar. The end is drilled and tapped M8 so I can remove it if needs be. Refitted the bar end so no ones the wiser, going for a long ride Wednesday evening. So will see if the right hand survives without pins and needles, if so will seal it in with silicon.
There is a microwave onboard so definitely bring on microwave meals and some liquid No I’m on the cap Finistère tired old thing to be replaced next year by a Chinese manufactured boat I believe if rumours are true
Was out on the bike, going around a lovely smooth corner, nearly double the speed limit, mid corner.....the look of the Police Officers face coming in the other direction. Almost like I’d shat on his weetabix......
I dont know how you guys do it! I have always struggled to be interested in doing the big hours, but happily, I now consider myself as semi retired as opposed to just lazy!
Celebrated my Birthday !!! Brilliant lunch surrounded by a table full of good friends; we ate and drank very well. In the evening down to the local bar where refreshments were consumed ending up with JD and coke's all round. A good time was had by all, apparently
To be honest up until the last year or so I thoroughly enjoyed my job. I dealt with the Far East/Australia when I got up, the UK business in the morning, and the USA/Canada in the afternoon and evening. Work used to be fun. However the last 12-18 months took it’s toll. I was spending too much time in the air, away from my family. I was also getting increasingly frustrated at level of bureaucracy being piled on to the sales and project process, and those involved were just “jobs worth” who weren’t really interested in developing projects but just interested in ticking boxes and covering their arses. It was that final realisation that pushed me to the decision to retire early. Do I regret it? Do I hell.
I realised today, how lucky I am to be over 50. My generation could fuck up and make fools of ourselves and there was no social media to revel in our discomfort....
