So what have you done today..?

  1. On 9 March 2010 I got a UK National Identity Card. The issuing of it was very efficiently administered, rather like the Swiss experience. I looked forward to being able to use it , but later in 2010 the coalition government idiotically scrapped the whole scheme - so UK identity was thrown back into its previous mess, and all the money which had been sensibly spent sorting it out was wasted. If anyone wants to look for an example of some government expenditure which was, in the end, completely nugatory that is it.

  2. Because they are a waste of public funds and an erosion on my civil liberties. Why probably for another thread ;-)

  3. I too quite like trains, buses and trams as museum pieces, rather like steam traction engines or dirigible airships. Fascinating. But as practical form of transport for me to use, forget it.

  4. Bus to town for me is £5.40 for about a mile journey on a newish bus with marks all over the windows from the tongues of those who us it daily...experienced the train and tube and, altho my ticket refused to work at every turnstile, because it wasn't rush hour it wasn't that bad...

  5. You need to move over the border

We cut their tongues out here

  6. Quite like using the train,if I can sit down that is,to go to London.Use the buses and tube when up there, and particularly like the riverboat-although it turns out the riverboat doesn't like me.
Being blessed with good transport links where I live does of course help, and having a bus pass of course.
I am sure there are many places in the UK where the public transport is dire or non existant, and that is not good.
Whatever happened to the nationwide fully integrated transport system that was mooted all those years ago?

  7. They are not compulsory in Switzerland. The wife doesn't want one. You can apply for one with a passport or without, and a passport without an ID card.
If you want both, it costs about CHF 10 more than just the passport. I can't see how they are a waste of public money (any more than a passport is) or an erosion of civil liberties (any more than a passport is). It's not like wartime films "Ihre Papier bitte!"

Don't want it, don't have it.

  8. The plan was it WOULD be complulsory. That is the point.

  9. Gym this evening, trying hard to get in the mood to prep for next year by not pitting too much timber on over Christmas..

  10. Eat decent food and cut out the junk and you'll be fine.

It's not as if you have to starve yourself.

The answer is, in fact, soup.

  11. Soup...with half a baguette and unsalted butter ;-)

  12. I was never a huge lover of soup. I know this is is not PC, but when I grew up it was the food of poor people (those less well off than me always smelled of soup. To me anyways).

Howver of late I do quite enjoy good, thick vegetable soup. Especially on a cold, winters day.

I can't stand the smell of Heinz tomato soup. Makes me want to chuck!

  13. that's the lecky off, fecking storms. this post is brought to you by the power of Honda.
