Finally got the decals off. Ran out of methylated spirits to get rid of the glue residue, but good progress.
yesterday gave the 900(?)SS 'Q' bike (ex-Lee, Joe, Paul) a new home in Cumbria. photo another day. after dark by arrival in Maryport
Meths evaporates too quickly, white spirit is better or paraffin. If you can find a stockist locally glue and tar remover is the best. Wipe on leave to soak wipe off, I have the end of a can on my van but you’re a little too far away. I see Petrol has been suggested, however I wouldn’t use it as again it evaporates quickly and it stinks to high heaven. It works mind but for me the disadvantages outweigh the advantages over meths. White Spirit is the easiest for you to get hold of. https://www.surechemicals.co.uk/industrial-products/cleaning-degreasing-industrial/tar-remover
Picked up some sort of bug on Sunday, so am lying in bed in our hotel room, thoroughly pissed off, and feeling sorry for myself. This was my wife’s 50th birthday holiday, and I feel like I’ve let her down. I’ve insisted that she goes and does the things she wants today, and I’ll just stay here. Might venture down to the pool and sleep in a cabana most of the day, but am mightily annoyed.
Thanks amigo, I agree with you re petrol, and I'm sure my friendly neighbours will become a little nervous if there is a strong waft of petrolio in the air! I tried some glue remover but it might aswell have been water for the good it did. Maybe I was unlucky and Amazon sold me a dud? But more disappointing was the white spirit. I bought a 2 litre bottle when I was stripping the decals from some fairings on my NC30, and it worked a treat. Yesterday the very same stuff did a very good impersonation of the aforementioned Amazonian glue remover. I can only suppose different decals have different fixatives. On these meths applied with a soft scourer works pretty well. Plus the neighbours can sleep easy as the aren't aware of the fire risk as there's little or no smell!
Not ever come across vinyl glue that White Spirit wouldn’t shift. Glue remover should work like magic, might be the glue is water based and not solvent hence the Meths works. You could try if you have some WD40 as it is just paraffin with something added which would rule out solvent based glue. Good luck.
Took my lads MX5 for it’s MOT now it’s been welded up, put the L plates on it ready for when he has had his first driving lesson 9 am tomorrow after which I’ll be sitting in as co driver. Moved stuff around the garage for first ride of a this year, started the MV up ran it for a little then switched off once I’d dug it out. Made room for the Monster to be stripped down, put the rs 125 away as it looks likely my lad won’t be riding it due to the outrageous insurance quotes he’d had. Treated my Handroids with cleaner and restorer then dug out my leathers dug out my 2 piece as I’m not certain my one piece hasn’t shrunk over Winter.
Hope you feel better soon @Multirider75 have you had a brandy? Supposed to settle your stomach Nothing worse than being ill when you’re away, I remember having a bout of gastro enteritis on a Scottish bike trip a while ago, only just made it back to the hotel in Peebles, abandoned the bike by the front door and ran upstairs, only just made it felt like I’d had a spoon up my bum and my guts stirred up ! Followed by an attack of “the Sharts” ..that’s a cross between a sh1t and a fart, dreadful
