  1. They don’t care and won’t payout, my mate tried it in an expensive alloy wheel. They basically said take us to Court, same pothole has claimed a couple of wheels as the lane it’s in is quite narrow and it’s difficult to avoid. I’ve stopped using the lane now.

  2. I put a claim in some years back with some success
The pot hole damaged the front wheel of my then Golf GTI which had mini-lite wheels
I put the claim in to replace all four wheels as I couldn’t buy just one.
They paid out an amount to replace a new standard wheel
I took photos using a tape measure to indicate depth and circumference and had an independent witness sign a statement of authority

  3. I guess it all depends on when (age) and how (trauma or wear and tear) the cartilage gets damaged, as to what size the bits of the cartilage that end up floating around the knee joint actually are. According to the Consultant, for ‘a man of my age’ (70), the cause is commonly wear and tear, leading to thinning of the cartilage and worst case, bone on bone rubbing. My decision is, to miss the early part of the riding season or risk delaying the mitigating surgery and hope the problem doesn’t get any worse which could lead to more complicated surgery. One of the many delights of getting older. Andy

  4. In your shoes Andy, I'd get it done straight away. There's always plenty of time to ride when you're retired, and you'll be back on the bike when the weather is good.

  12. Finally got my 3 part DVLA application to renew my driving licence at 70 in the post. I know this topic has been addressed here before but a reminder to those drivers who have entitlement to drive classes C1 and D1, light goods vehicles weighing between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes and mini busses with seating for up to 16 people, there are extra hoops to jump through to retain the entitlement from the age of 70. My local GP surgery no longer offers a medical examination for DVLA forms so it cost me £61 for a 10 minute interview with a nominated, private healthcare company doctor. 20 yes/no health based questions, detailed medication history, reading chart at 3 meters eye test and blood pressure. Let’s hope there’s someone not WFH the day my application arrives. Andy

  14. This week Ive been mainly doing boring stuff around the house with the odd walk around the local lake which is nearby.

Today I'm waiting on 2 contractors to measure up and price two patio areas I would like to have built in the spring if I can afford it.

I might go out tonight........not decided yet.

  15. Boiler & valve 'issues' at home meant a chilly few days this week! All sorted now and so glad I can do this stuff myself! Hats off to this outfit for an OEM boiler part and speedy delivery:

  16. Driven back from the Peaks to my house in Herts in record time. Unusually courteous lorry drivers too (I think they must have been foreign ones).

Make hay while the sun shines and all that!
