  3. Went out into the garage with good intentions but by the time I finished catching with a neighbour who was out walking his dog, I'd got way too cold to stay out and came back in. Might have to put the heating on :joy: Andy

  10. Came home from work , to what I thought was the sound of a dripping tap . Cursed the wife under my breath, walked into the kitchen and there is water coming through one of the spot lights in the ceiling and the floor is flooded! . The downstairs loo was exactly the same! . Ran upstairs and the toilet in the bathroom was over flowing at the system . Quickly turned the water off then which stopped it immediately . Rang a guy from work who could be with me in 20 mins, started mopping everything up . Thank goodness for Wayne and screwfix and all sorted in 30 mins . Glad it was nothing major and a simple fix, certainly a shock coming home and finding it! . The wife works from home normally but had the day off to take our daughter shopping for an outfit for an interview next week . I've just got him some cash out for his trouble but I know he'll refuse it .

  12. What happened with the overflow, or was the water leak from the bottom of the cistern?

  13. I know! . When i was upstairs I was looking for water coming through the ceiling thinking the water tank had a leak or something . It was only when i stopped to take a second to think it was then that i remembered we had it removed a couple of months ago when we had the new central heating system fitted.
Last month we had the living room replastered and all decorated , thank god that was all OK .

  14. Err I don't know really, I know nothing at all about plumbing .

  15. I’m not a plumber either, so might be worth seeking some advice, but the cistern should have some form of overflow that drains excess water if the fill valve doesn’t fully close to prevent the cistern filling up and spilling over the floor. Normally a pipe exiting high up the side of the cistern, often through a wall to the outside the property, or via the flush valve and into the toilet bowl.

Don’t know what the problem you had was but if water was coming out of the top of the cistern and over the floor the overflow should have prevented that. HTH.

  16. Round whatever with the NHS, God bless ‘em. Result is another tablet short term until they’ve done the angiography. Growing old sucks, but it beats the alternative.
