  4. Waiting for a bass amplifier to be delivered by DHL.
Received an email stating I need to pay £194.36 to customs as it’s being imported from the Netherlands
    Thinking it’s a scam.

  5. Might be a case of wait and see. What is tracking saying on parcel location. I guess no demand can be made before it reaches UK customs?

  6. Still in the Netherlands awaiting shipment.

    Further Detail:
Shipment has been given a release status by Customs… whatever that means?

Delivery date has been confirmed as the end of day Friday 3rd

You’d have thought this extra charge, if it is in fact genuine, would have been brought to my attention at purchase.
I could have gone to London and bought one over the counter for the extra charge incurred.

Will wait and see what happens in their next update.

  7. Were you aware at the time of purchase that it was coming from the Netherlands?

I’ve recently imported an exhaust from Switzerland had to pay £60 in admin and duty to have it released from Customs.

  8. My son has a parcel from the USA every couple of months and always gets an invoice from Parcel force to pay import fees etc.

  9. Fitted complete hydraulic piping system to the cars active anti roll bar. Is it really necessary I asked as i fought with recalcitrant fittings.

  10. Import charges are notified to the buyer once the item is in the country, it will not be released for final delivery until charges are paid

In the last 18 months, i have ordered two full fairing kits from a company in China, the first one arrived, no import charges, the second one, about £35 in charges before it would be delivered, i was notified by the final carrier, in my case, Parcel Farce

  11. I bought an electric cello from Germany as a Christmas present for my wife this year, delivered by UPS.
It didn’t incur any customs/tax charges and the package is considerably larger than the amplifier.
    £194.36 does seem a lot.

  12. You need to eat more of your grannies home made chicken soup!

  13. It the cost of the item that dictates import duty though not the size of the package.

Not sure what DHL own charges are for processing the duty. Do you not have a summary of the charges?

Exhaust was around £220 with duty and charged it came to around £60.

  14. Tried to fix a soft-close toilet seat which was dropping a bit too quickly - now it drops like a stone :poop:

  16. The cello was a more costly item than the amp.
I’ll wait for an accurate demand as it’s only an approximation at this point, which I find a bit odd, than I might tell the shop, Reverb, to go swing and demand a refund.
Just wish I’d been made aware earlier as it would have influenced my purchase.

  17. My ParcelForce demand was itemised, seems off they don’t know exactly what the cost of import is and charge accordingly. From memory the exhaust was £40 in duty and £22 in admin charges.

Sounds like you struck lucky with the Cello, I’ve only been ‘lucky’ once when buying from outside the UK. That was a watch from Argentina, whereby FedEx forgot to charge me the duty on the item. They later attempted to recover the charges but failed, on all other occasions I’ve paid.

AFAIK if Reverbs seller is exporting to UK they shouldn’t be charging VAT their end? I absorbed the VAT on the exhaust as I couldn’t buy it within the UK.

I hadn’t realised Reverb were just the middleman in the transaction.

Will Reverbs seller accept a return though? AFAIK and from my watch purchase where the seller was fretting that I wasn’t going to be able to collect the watch he was concerned that he’d be liable to duty should it be returned to him?

  18. Been reminiscing about new years eves of yore.

Boxing off ya rave/club tickets in September, drugs bought and stashed in a suitable place for when the ale hits hard, leaving work at 12 on the dot to go for a few pints with your work mates before the real shenanigans begin and you get dolled up for a night on the D floor.

Don’t miss the two day hangovers these days but had some 11/10 new years eves in the past.
Today? Sat in the pub having a beer or two at 2:30pm (still) but will be ordering a Chinese at 6pm and akip on the couch by 7pm, 8 at a push.

    Happy new year all x

  19. Now that is quite eerie.

My grannies chicken soup and chopped liver recipe have been in the family for many many generations. Shame she is gone though!!
